Why do we love this case?
Our jaws have dropped to the floor, and our tongues are hanging out. Tails might even be wagging. We can’t get enough of the King of Grapes. From bright and elegantly textured to piledriver power and raucously rich, this Bordeaux native is equally capable of brilliance in a blend or all on its own. This pack offers you a selection of six cabernets. There’s something unique about every wine, and each offers its own journey of discovery. Bow down to the King!
Each case contains ONE bottle of each of the following:
1x Reschcke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
This wine from Coonawarra icon Reschke is a bit of a special treat. It’s a cellar release that has 9 years of ageing, developing and improving under its belt. It’s a cuvèe that is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get there hands on some. Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish.
You’d pay $85 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Indómita Duette Cabernet Carménère 2019
Red — Cabernet Blend
Maipo Valley — Chile
We haven’t had a wine from Chilean producer Indómita since the 2015 vintage. Not sure why, it just kinda happened that way. But there’s nothing like a Gold medal and 96 point score from Decanter to remind you that it’s time to reignite that relationship! This 50/50 blend of cabernet sauvignon and carménère (the unofficial national grape of Chile) is an absolute stunner. Carménère serves in the same role as merlot (some argue they are potentially the same genetically) in making what shapes up to be an exceptional Chilean take on a Bordeaux-style red blend. It’s dark, spicy, full of fruit, framed with structure, and given to an incredibly lengthy finish. Welcome back, Indómita!
You’d pay $45 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Kilikanoon Block Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Clare Valley — Australia
Kilikanoon is absolutely killing it! Do they make an underwhelming wine? We’ve tasted almost everything they’ve produced and can confidently say ‘no’. So it’s perhaps the world’s smallest surprise that this cabernet rocks. It’s sourced from two elevated vineyards in the Clare, undergoing a basket press and 16 months in seasoned oak. Think texture over toastiness, although the hints of char are still there. Cherries, blackberries, cassis and capsicum intertwine, meeting varietal expectations. The wine finishes with polished tannins and length, further driving home the point that Kilikanoon is amongst the Clare’s (and Australia’s) best.
You’d pay $75 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Alta-Yari Gran Corte Cabernet Blend 2019
Red — Cabernet Blend
Mendoza — Argentina
This one means a bit more to me than the average wine. About two years ago (and what feels like a lifetime ago), I was lucky enough to be hosted in Mendoza by Hervé and Diane Joyeaux Fabre, the couple behind Viñalba and Fabre Montmayou. After a memorable day spent walking their vineyards in the Uco Valley with a backdrop of the towering Andes Mountains, we headed over to the winery to do a bit of tasting. Amongst new vintages of all of their great wines was something I’d never seen before, a first taste of the previously unreleased Alta-Yarí Gran Corte.
You’d pay $95 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Undurraga Aliwen Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Chile — Chile
Viña Undurraga has been operating continuously for over 130 years, making them one of the most important and historic wineries in all of Chile. What better place to start when dipping your toe into Chilean wine for the first time? Ripe, red fruit flavour is enhanced by notes of cedar, vanilla and chocolate. The tannins are supple and soft, letting the energy of the fruit do the talking. It’s about as versatile a cabernet as you’re likely to find as well.
You’d pay $55 full price.

1x H.J. Fabre Reserva Malbec Cabernet Franc 2020
Red — Red Blend
Mendoza — Argentina
Argentina is rightly famous for malbec, but they’re far from the only string to its bow. Variety is the spice of life, they say, and they do some damn good things with cabernets (amongst others) there, too. Not ready to abandon malbec completely, though? How about a compromise? Mix it up with a malbec cab franc blend. H.J. Fabre is one of the best at blending up reds, winning award after award for their work. This one boasts a well-deserved gold medal and 95 points. Time to dive in!
You’d pay $55 full price.
