Why do we love this case?

This fantastic mix of wonderful whites from the Old World would be mouth-wateringly tempting enough on its own. But when you factor in the price, and the unbelievable value on offer, it’s enough to make you start jumping up and down shouting “gimme, gimme, gimme!” Ok, maybe it’s just me that struggles with excessive exuberance, but it’s a damn fine offer just the same. We’ve got a little bit of everything here, from the top of France to the bottom of Italy’s boot (well actually the little island just off to the side). The one thing that unites them all is sheer shameless deliciousness!

Domaine Ellevin 1er Cru Vosgros Chablis Burgundy Chardonnay 2017

Minerally
Medium-bodied

If you’ve had a few regular Chablis and generally like the style, then it’s time to level up. This is Chablis… plus. You get all that you know and love, and more. More concentration, more minerality, more cucumber & aloe, apple and pear, more bright acid, more texture, more poise. You get the idea. It’s quite incredible to think you can get this level of interest from simply worked fruit. Equally, there’s no need to tart the wine up like a Christmas tree when you’ve got such amazing terroir and beautifully expressive grapes. It’ll age fantastically for many years, but I’m willing to bet it won’t last that long. You’ll end up cracking open bottle after bottle, just to ‘make sure’ you weren’t imagining how good it is. Delicious stuff.

Italy's chardonnays don't get huge amounts of press. Nevertheless, they've been making cracking examples, particularly in the cooler north of the country, for years now. This offering, from renowned Barolo masters, Pio Cesare, is very fresh, with a great backbone of minerality and acidity. From that bright core comes fruit and spice, and a slight of vanilla note and heady aromatics. Leesy complexity rounds out the texture and sends it all home.

This is Alsace gris at its gleaming, shimmering best. It’s an orchard ripe with Autumnal bounty. It’s juicy pears, Meyer lemon and apples, spiced up with some fresh ginger. It neatly skips around overripeness, too. Everything is flavourful and present, but fresh and clean. Alsace’s legendary terroirs come through with a good splash of minerality, too. It’s the real deal. Perfect for your spicier Singaporean dishes, curries and noodles. If you’ve never tried Alsatian gris, we recommend starting your journey here.

While Sicily is making waves in the wine world with all sorts of exciting grapes, techniques, terroirs and the like, it pays not to forget a grape that’s been there since the beginning - “before they were famous”. Grillo is the quintessential Sicilian white. Imbued with notes of orange blossom, citrus, almond meal and saline freshness, it’s as flavoursome and exciting as its island home. It’s a perfect pairing for many of the typical dishes of the region, and versatile enough to take on cuisine from all over the world. Think fresh seafood, cold cuts and maybe an arancino or two!

French import

This is from Famille Perrin, an organically certified family producer. All that care and attention makes for a bottleful of pure flavour and authentic feel. It’s a blend of grenache blanc, marsanne, rousanne and viognier, as is required for whites of the region. The result is beautifully lifted and floral on the nose, with delicious spice and pithy aromas. It’s rich, round and tangy on the palate, sumptuously fruity and distinctly Mediterranean. It’s a white for all seasons, with summery fruit flavour being delightful in hot weather, and the chewy richness proving perfect for the cold.
