Crafted by boutique winery Brightwater from their little patch of paradise in the Nelson region, this is a pretty wonderful pinot noir. The sunshine and sea breezes of the region produce beautifully balanced fruit that is harnessed in elegant wines. The wine is bursting with aromas of bright cherries and plums that play with floral, gamey notes. Dangerously drinkable, the palate is vibrant, juicy and smooth.

Like most Margaret River wineries, Flametree is best known for its chardonnay, cabernet and cabernet blends. If you are a regular here at the âFo, youâve seen the chardonnay and cabernet from several vintages. Weâve now made the cab merlot another regular, with this being our second vintage of it. Flametree has thrown in small bits of malbec and petit verdot as well, making this truly a Bordeaux-style blend. Itâs full of ripe fruit like blackberry, cassis and red currants, all supported by hints of cocoa, earthiness and fine tannins. You can drink this the moment it arrives at your door or try to be patient for up to 10 years. Good luck with that!

It has been a few years since weâve sold anything from the Spanish DOQ of Priorat. There are only two regions in all of Spain that carry the DOQ/DOCa (top of the top) qualification and they are Rioja and Priorat, both global benchmarks in magnificent, age-worthy reds. Where Rioja is all about tempranillo, Priorat champions the red blend, with local and French varieties grown in their famed Llicorella soils. If you are a bit of a soil nerd or geology buff, do yourself a favour and google Llicorella to learn about the reddish and black carboniferous slate (with mica and quartzite) soils. Itâs these soils where the vines need to bury deep within the earth to access water and itâs a journey that adds to the strain of the vines and resulting mineral character in the wine.

Irvine are getting to be a favourite of ours, with deliciously refreshing whites and firmly fruited reds. Their Spring Hill range is ridiculous good value and weâre glad to have gotten our hands on some of the shiraz for Singapore. Although itâs their âentry levelâ range, this wine still sees a year in French oak and is already walking and talking Barossa shiraz. Dark cherry, vanilla and cocoa bound from the glass, then comes the full body, laden with fruit and spice. Chewy tannins add to the structure and the finish is full of puckering plums. This wine is ready to drink now.

ChĂąteau Beauvillage makes one wine and one wine only. Theyâve been at it this way since 1925. Good thing they are so skilled at it. Year after year, it delivers its distinctive character. The winemaker adapts the fermentation process to the specific vintage conditions, but always keeping the blend the same - 55% merlot and 45% cabernet sauvignon. The 2019 edition saw 12 months in toasted French oak before bottling. Itâs wonderfully complex and aromatic with ripe fruit notes of cherry and plum with hints of cedar, mocha and smoke behind the scenes. The tannins are silky and lead to a lingering finish. This is a wine of richness and structure, something both hedonistic and serious at the same time.

Tabu is their expression of an approachable, drink-now style of Malbec. It carries all the driving fruit intensity expected out of Mendoza with hints of cherry and spice, a smooth texture and ripe tannins. And since itâs a red wine from Argentina, you already know the perfect food pairing - a nice thick cut of steak grilled to perfection.
