Tasting Notes
1x Kilikanoon Block Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Clare Valley — Australia
Kilikanoon is absolutely killing it! Do they make an underwhelming wine? We’ve tasted almost everything they’ve produced and can confidently say ‘no’. So it’s perhaps the world’s smallest surprise that this cabernet rocks. It’s sourced from two elevated vineyards in the Clare, undergoing a basket press and 16 months in seasoned oak. Think texture over toastiness, although the hints of char are still there. Cherries, blackberries, cassis and capsicum intertwine, meeting varietal expectations. The wine finishes with polished tannins and length, further driving home the point that Kilikanoon is amongst the Clare’s (and Australia’s) best.
You’d pay price $75 full price.

1x Schwarz Wine Co The Grower Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
The Schwarz family are not the new kids on the block, now six generations into their Barossa heritage with winemaker Jason Schwarz. It perhaps wasn’t his first port of call in life, but the Barossa calling came to Jason in time, leading him to make some of the most dynamic and focused wines that herald the incredible terroir of the Valley. ‘The Grower’ refers to the close-knit community the Schwarz family have nurtured in their time and allows the region’s best fruit to make its way into each glass. This wine is all about the liquorice, plums, and hints of chocolate that hit your senses. Fine tannins and a plush finish make this genuinely outstanding. Boy, one bottle is not enough.
You’d pay price $32 full price.

1x Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa — Australia
Join us please in welcoming back: the one, the only, Golden Lion cab sauv! If it’s not apparent, we’re excited about this one. A break since the 2017 vintage has made us yearning for more, especially as the 2021 comes under the accomplished (and charming) reigns of winemaker Angela Miranda. Barossa cabernet flies under the radar most of the time, and the Lou Miranda Golden Lion cabernet sauvignon is a case in point. There’s more body and cassis ripeness here compared to cool-climate examples, while it still delivers cabernet’s trademark structure and tannin. Definitely worth opening now to enjoy with your Sunday roast lamb - and one that can comfortably handle time in the cellar. If you can resist.
