Why do we love this case?

This pack of New World reds has got it all. Covering two continents and four varieties (or blends), there is something for every occasion. Whether it’s earthy kiwi pinot or fresh and bold Argentine cab franc, these wines show off the charms of forward-thinking new world producers.

Each pack contains ONE bottle of the following:

Alta-Yarí is a newer project for the Fabre’s, sourced from their high-altitude vineyard in Gualtallary. Gran Corte is the flagship wine for this brand and it represents a more contemporary blend than what is often found in Mendoza. It starts with hand harvesting, followed by selection of first the bunches and then the individual grapes. The wine then sees 16 months in French oak. The finished wine is so compelling, so complex and so intensely delicious. The high-altitude vineyard provides minerality, structure and layering to deep, dark fruit flavours like blackcurrant, plum and cassis. Behind this are fine tannins and hints of graphite all leading to a velvety finish. It’s a little spicy, very aromatic and certainly built to age for a long time. Upon this wine’s release, Gran Corte was so clearly a triumph that leading South American wine reviewer Tim Atkin MW gave it a 97 point score. I’d say that’s pretty spot on.

Single Vineyard

“From the Settlement Vineyard - aromas of black currant and dark cherry, there’s plenty of wood spices and barrel smoke moments, dried herb and dry stone mineral notes bring complexity, depth and intrigue. On the palate - dry, tense, youthful, fruity and young. A wine that must remain in your cellar till at least the end of 2022 so integration and harmonies can begin to engage. In the meantime and if you must open a bottle - be sure to serve with fresh protein foods. Firm tannins and acid line add texture, the core of fruit remain but is hidden till the tannins and dried herb layers are allowed to integrate. Plenty of potential and a lovely expression with best drinking from December 31st 2022 through 2028+. Am keen to try this wine again in 12 months to check its progress.” - Cameron Douglas MS

Mofo Fave Producer

Mitolo is a dead-set McLaren mofo fave - a customer fave and a staff fave, famous for bold, firm and concentrated reds that are truely some of the best in the region. This 2018 shiraz starts with blueberries and plums on the nose, followed by a pretty perfume. The palate is all McLaren with dense red and black fruit, richness and abundant tannin. It’s as intense, as complex, as high quality, as powerful as you are going to find, with all of that fruit supported by roasted nuts and spices, and super dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is indeed bold, but not overwhelming, as tannin dances with fruit, acidity, earthy notes and a long and moreish finish.

From the Cellar

This wine from Coonawarra icon Reschke is a special treat. It’s a cellar release that has 9 years of ageing, developing and improving under its belt. It’s a cuvèe that is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for us. Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish.

Kilikanoon is absolutely killing it! Do they make an underwhelming wine? We’ve tasted most everything they’ve produced and can confidently say ‘no’. So it’s perhaps the world’s smallest surprise that this cabernet rocks. It’s sourced from two elevated vineyards in the Clare, undergoing a basket press and 16 months in seasoned oak. Think texture over toastiness, although the hints of char are still there. Cherries, blackberries, cassis and capsicum intertwine, meeting varietal expectations. The wine finishes with polished tannins and length, further driving home the point that Kilikanoon is amongst the Clare’s (and Australia’s) best.

4.0 Vivino (All Vintages)
Mofo Fave Producer

Last year we were lucky enough to get our hands on the Golden Lion RESERVE shiraz from Lou Miranda. We thought it was a rare occasion, but we’ve played our cards right and are ecstatic to bring you the 2018. It’s an equally as excellent wine that feels kinda like welding a jet engine to the back of their regular shiraz. Power and other-worldly levels of deliciousness. In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. Lou Miranda has included American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future.
