Why do we love this case?
The battle’s on, mofos. Lines have been drawn, sides chosen. In the Red Corner: Old World. The OG winemaking countries that have millenia of practice under their belts. In the (other) Red Corner: New World. The plucky pretenders that are hell-bent on shaking things up. Who will win? Only you can decide!
Every case contains ONE of each of the following:
1x Château De Braude Haut Médoc 2018
Red — Merlot Blend
Bordeaux — France
We know a good claret, when it smells like different shades of green, grown in some shady part of a dusty old château, touched occasionally by some diluted morning sun. But hold up. This, my friends, is not that. Welcome to the good stuff. An exceptional quality rouge that will have you writing poetry. Hailing from the legendary 2018 vintage, this is a wine of ripe, plush, glorious flavour. We’re talking blackcurrants, cassis, leather and tobacco. And yet it’s still all balanced atop that classic Bordeaux medium body and fine yet firm, gravelly tannins. Give it a go. We promise it’ll have you writing rhymes, too.
You’d pay $70 full price.

1x Nga Waka Three Paddles Pinot Noir 2020
Red — Pinot Noir
Martinborough — New Zealand
Nga Waka (pronounced ‘Na Waka’) was established in 1988 by a small wine-growing family and continues today with the same ethos; to make excellent quality pinot noir. Based in the ‘south of the north’ island in NZ’s famous ‘grand cru’ region of Martinborough, this wine is an excellent example of what we know and love about the area. Pinot from these parts doesn’t shy away from a bit of density and savouriness with dark fruits, spice and tannin. However, don’t expect it to be a super delicate pinot, but a much more profound, round and flavourful wine. Ridiculous value here.
You’d pay $48 full price.

1x Socré Barbaresco DOCG 2017
Red — Nebbiolo
Piemonte — Italy
This is a new vintage of an absolutely stunning wine that we’ve been lucky to work with for four years now. This is Barbaresco, Barolo’s younger sibling that tends to be slightly more delicate, approachable and seductive. Bring out the Barolo when you want to impress your boss. Bring out the Barbaresco when you want to impress a wine lover. This wine offers a heady bouquet of tangy forest berries and cherries, with violets, rose petals, earth, mocha and licorice root. There’s tannin on the palate, but not so much that you can’t open it young. Make sure to decant to get the most out of this layered and structured wine.
You’d pay $90 full price.

1x El Rincón de los Enebros 2020
Red — Tempranillo
Rioja — Spain
Finca de la Rica , who make this wonderful wine, are one of our all time favourite Rioja producers. They work with around forty small plots of old vines across Rioja Alavesa and make small volumes of top-quality wine. El Rincón de Los Enebros is their take on a grenache-dominant blend, with tempranillo playing a supporting role. Anyone familiar with the region knows that old vine garnacha from Rioja can reach lofty heights of excellence and this wine certainly has some of that magic.
Part of the magic is the twelve months it spends in new American oak wrapped into the generous fruit and balanced by the fresh notes (likely from the tempranillo). It’s rich, powerful, and very silky - the fruit spectrum is blue and red (in abundance), and there are layers of toasty vanillin notes and baking spice. I’m going to take a punt and say that lovers of full-bodied reds from malbec to shiraz to Amarone will be delighted by this one.
You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Undurraga Aliwen Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Chile — Chile
Viña Undurraga has been operating continuously for over 130 years, making them one of the most important and historic wineries in all of Chile. What better place to start when dipping your toe into Chilean wine for the first time? Ripe, red fruit flavour is enhanced by notes of cedar, vanilla and chocolate. The tannins are supple and soft, letting the energy of the fruit do the talking. It’s about as versatile a cabernet as you’re likely to find as well.
You’d pay $55 full price.

1x Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa — Australia
Join us please in welcoming back: the one, the only, Golden Lion cab sauv! If it’s not apparent, we’re excited about this one. A break since the 2017 vintage has made us yearning for more, especially as the 2021 comes under the accomplished (and charming) reigns of winemaker Angela Miranda. Barossa cabernet flies under the radar most of the time, and the Lou Miranda Golden Lion cabernet sauvignon is a case in point. There’s more body and cassis ripeness here compared to cool-climate examples, while it still delivers cabernet’s trademark structure and tannin. Definitely worth opening now to enjoy with your Sunday roast lamb - and one that can comfortably handle time in the cellar. If you can resist.
