Chateau La Clapiére Cru Classe Provence Rosé 2017

You can’t fake this kind of fun and flavour. This rosé is one of only 18 illustrious Cru Classé estates internationally recognised as Provence’s best rosés. This particular pink is made from cinsault, grenache and syrah - it’s a super pretty wine with delicate wafts of fine perfume, tropical fruits, sage and rocky mineral notes. It’s moderate intensity, more a play on delicacy and finesse than power. It finishes peachy and plummy with a crisp citrus crunch.

This delightful rosé was made by Sebastien Vicenti, winemaker and co-proprietor at one of the most exciting estates in the south of France. His goal was to make a wine of astounding finesse and aromatics, that’s brightly refreshing and fun to drink. It’s a blend of classic southern Rhône grapes, cinsault, syrah and grenache. The cinsault, in particular, gives it a spiciness that brings it to life and steers it well away from ‘just another rosé’ territory. The spice is balanced by deliciously generous red berries and clean acid freshness. Delicious!

Firstly, this is the colour that ‘rose gold’ would be if it could be any colour in the world. It has a certain brilliance to it. The nose is fine, piles of red fruits, stacked with earthy complexity. But the palate’s what we came for here. It has finesse like the nose, and builds in intensity - fruit riding a zesty line of acid, leapfrogged by spice. This is a classic Côtes du Rhône blend of GSM and a little cinsault. The end result’s completely satisfying, and vindicating. Glad we came here.

Cuvee Du Vatican Côtes du Rhône Rhone Valley Rosé 2017

2017 was a great Rhône rosé vintage, and this is the first time it’s been released under the prestigious Cuvée du Vatican label. Such a classic vintage that we’ve been told (a few times now) that 2017 is even favoured over 2015. Now we’re talking. But the maker really had us when they said, “this cozy wine will be among the good tables where it is good to live and feast”. We’re not one to not live, or feast. So let the feast begin.

This delicious drop from the Southern Rhône has everything you’d find in a classic Provence rosé - except the price. The mouthfeel is gorgeously creamy, with bright red berries, sweet spice and Provençal herbs all melding together softly. It’s neither overtly fruity, or aggressively savoury, and instead wins hearts with charming perfume and easy drinking nature. The winery recommend pairing with fish or sea urchins. I think you could match it with pretty much any classic Singaporean dish too, from spicy to savoury and everything in between. It’s uber versatile and disconcertingly easy to finish the bottle.
