Driftwood Estate Single Site Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
- Textured, savoury
- Margaret River
This is one of those bottles where sampling the wine turns into having the whole bottle over dinner. It’s THAT good. Driftwood is one of Margaret River’s best producers, has one of the best vineyard sites in the region, and has crafted one of the best cabernets we’ve tasted in ages. Everything adds up to one absolutely spectacular wine. The fruit profile is spot on with cassis, mulberry and blueberry. Secondary characteristics abound like chocolate, mint, cedar and graphite. There’s a confident structure, finesse on the palate and an extremely fine tannin profile on the prolonged finish. It’s just one of those wines that hits all the right notes.

Region
Margaret River
Margaret River is as elusive as it is beautiful, such that you really need to visit to truly grasp its haunting beauty. Über-premium Cabernet, Chardonnay and Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends grow here. 'Margies' only produces 3% of the country's grapes, but commands over 20% of its premium wine market, and hasn't had an off vintage since 2006. You start to realise how often this region is overlooked when you can list brands like Leeuwin, Cape Mentelle, Vasse Felix, and Voyager, not to mention Cullen, Pierro, Moss Wood, and Deep Woods. It's safe to say that it's time for a revisit.
