Giribaldi Dame & Fuet Langhe Rosso 2019
- Medium bodied
- Piemonte
The Langhe region of Piemonte famously encompasses both Barolo and Barbaresco. These are of course the high-end wines with high-end price tags made from 100% nebbiolo. This is what gets the most attention internationally from the region, but it isnât generally what the locals drink. For their imbibing pleasure, they turn to Langhe Rosso, which is usually a blend of dolcetto, barbera and of course nebbiolo. They arenât too fussed with what goes into it as long as it tastes good. All the way over here in Australia though, weâre a bit more pedantic about what ends up in the bottle.
Profile
This organic Langhe Rosso from the boutique winery of the Giribaldi family has the typical components of dolcetto, barbera and nebbiolo, but thereâs also a surprising touch of pinot noir in the blend. Itâs medium-bodied, ruby red in colour and bursting with aromas of cherry, redcurrant and tobacco. On the palate the fruit carries through, but is accompanied by hints of vanilla and licorice undoubtedly drawn from the wineâs generous time in seasoned oak. Itâs easy-going enough to enjoy a glass on its own, but the acid structure is plenty apparent for pairing with savoury, meaty dishes. Try it with carne cruda, agnolotti del Plin or brasato. Youâll feel like youâre sitting under the shadow of the Italian Alps.
Itâs cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.
