"Good focus, very fine tannins and great intensity as well on a very long finish. It will drink well for ten to twenty years with ease – amazing stuff." – Ken Gargett

Why do we love this wine?

Gather around mofos. There were very few bottles produced of this transcendently beautiful wine, and we were lucky to snag a few of those few. Breathe it in, can you smell that? That’s what it’s like to be in the presence of heritage South Australian shiraz. Hewitson release prized wines from some of the world’s oldest vines of shiraz and mourvèdre planted in 1853. This Barossan beauty is rare and wondrous; black fruits, dark spice, red earth, creamy dark chocolate velvety texture with a hint of muscle that builds with every kind of forest berry, intermingling with firm but fully ripe tannins. Truly, truly scrumptious.

Review

Ken Gargett

Near impenetrable maroon in colour, the nose is seriously concentrated with chocolate, plums, mocha, coffee beans, leather, licorice, soy, warm earth, beef stock – the flavours and aromas seem endless. Nicely balanced, with good complexity and a thoroughly seductive texture. Good focus, very fine tannins and great intensity as well on a very long finish. It will drink well for ten to twenty years with ease – amazing stuff.
