Why do we love this case?
The Lucky Dip Case is here! The first time we did this in Australia, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.
Every case contains the same five wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.
Then there’s the added excitement of seeing if you have won the world-beater lucky wine you will receive as your sixth.
The sixth wine is the wildcard and could be either of these:
Château Angelus Saint Emilion 2016 worth $1,000 (1 in 100 chance)
Jim Brand Wines 'Silent Partner' Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 worth $90 (at a minimum!)
We should say up front: there are no returns on this - click here for case terms and conditions. As it’s a Lucky Dip, it would be unfair to other mofos running in the draw.
The easiest way to guarantee to get a bottle of Château Angelus is to go out and buy one for yourself. If you, like me, don’t have $1,000 handy, this is your best (and cheapest) option. Heard enough already? Pop that case in the cart and cross your fingers and toes. Otherwise, read on for a bit more info on these Bordeaux icons:
The Wild Card Wines
Wild Card Wine #1
Château Angelus Saint Emilion 2016
Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE
100pts James Suckling / 98+pts Robert Parker
"Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2016 Angélus erupts from the glass with powerful notes of blackberry pie, ripe black cherries and juicy black plums with an undercurrent of star anise, rose petals, chocolate mint, pencil shavings and woodsmoke plus a waft of allspice. The palate is pure decadence. Medium to full-bodied, rich and generously fruited, this wine is by no means heavy—it positively glimmers with freshness and vivacity, lending an ethereal nature to all that richness and power, beautifully framed by velvety tannins and finishing with epic length. The generosity, layers and plushness make for an absolutely DELICIOUS drink right now, but I'd suggest waiting 3-5 more years for the fireworks to really begin."
– 98+pts Robert Parker
"Incredible depth of fruit to this Angélus, which is dense yet also agile and energetic. There’s just so much dynamic fruit and tannin structure. Makes you want to taste and taste. What a young wine! We will see if 2016 is better than 2015. Both are great."
– 100pts James Suckling

This is deeply marked by black fruit; blackcurrants, dark cherries, black cherries. All of the rich fruit is accented by tobacco and cedar notes, and a distinct bit of char and mocha. Structured, imposing, full, and dense. Harmonious, perfectly poised, and brilliantly balanced. This is seriously good cabernet from a family that makes incredible wines.

1x Lights Valley Colonel Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
Wowee. If there was ever a wine that almost overflows with grandeur, this is well and truly it. Aged Barossa shiraz: big, heavy, and bold. Something you can say about the wine and the package it comes in. Are we in any doubt anymore that Barossa is the true home of shiraz? Seriously, search the world over and you'll be hard pressed to find juice quite as impressive, quite as complex, and with quite as much history. Each wine that comes out of this prized region is worth holding tightly on to, but this. This right here. This is the stuff mofo. Our producers have been guarding this in their cellar, but they figured it was finally time to send it off to loving homes (ahem, that's us!).

1x Rosenvale Vineyards Vine Vale Road Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
This is serious shiraz, mofo. Coming from one of our favourite Barossa producers who were established well over 100 years ago! As for this particular wine, after the grapes are picked at perfect ripeness to give voluptuous fruit quality, which sees a couple of years in new and seasoned French oak barrels. The resulting wine is dark and deep, with blueberries, spice and a touch of white pepper on the nose. The palate is full of fine tannins and rich red cherries and plums. It’s not just a mofo fave - it’s an all round consumer fave bringing in an impressive 4.1 rating on Vivino; Certainly not something you see every day. Calling all Aussie red lovers, this one should catch your attention!

1x Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa — Australia
Join us please in welcoming back: the one, the only, Golden Lion cab sauv! If it’s not apparent, we’re excited about this one. A break since the 2017 vintage has made us yearning for more, especially as the 2021 comes under the accomplished (and charming) reigns of winemaker Angela Miranda. Barossa cabernet flies under the radar most of the time, and the Lou Miranda Golden Lion cabernet sauvignon is a case in point. There’s more body and cassis ripeness here compared to cool-climate examples, while it still delivers cabernet’s trademark structure and tannin. Definitely worth opening now to enjoy with your Sunday roast lamb - and one that can comfortably handle time in the cellar. If you can resist.
You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Château De Braude Haut Médoc 2018
Red — Merlot Blend
Bordeaux — France
We know a good claret, when it smells like different shades of green, grown in some shady part of a dusty old château, touched occasionally by some diluted morning sun. But hold up. This, my friends, is not that. Welcome to the good stuff. An exceptional quality rouge that will have you writing poetry. Hailing from the legendary 2018 vintage, this is a wine of ripe, plush, glorious flavour. We’re talking blackcurrants, cassis, leather and tobacco. And yet it’s still all balanced atop that classic Bordeaux medium body and fine yet firm, gravelly tannins. Stunning.

1x Powell & Son The Blend Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
Just when we thought Powell & Sons couldn’t impress us more, they raised the bar higher than it’s ever been before. This seems to good to be true, right? We’re pinching ourselves too: it’s not every day that you get the best sub-regions of the Barossa (Marananga playing a big part of that), with the fruit of each vineyard separately nurtured and carefully blended after 18 months ageing in French oak. The name says it all, but this isn’t just any blend: it’s the king of blends. All shiraz. All star fruit. All the best oak. All in one neat little parcel. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, truly nothing will.
You’d pay $80 full price.
