2x Naked Run Wines The First Riesling 2021
White — Riesling
Clare Valley — Australia
Winemaker Steve Baraglia is a walking Clare Valley legend, and we’re pretty sure riesling runs in his blood. Seriously. Any given vintage, Steve is responsible for making a lot more of the region’s wines than he’ll probably tell you, and it’s all bloody epic. But this one. This is the one. DJ, play ‘Hallelujah’, because we’ve just found the ultimate of ultimate rieslings. Naked Run Wines hold this beauty back for 4 years before release, meaning it’s only just hit the market. We hardly have words to say, we’re too busy drinking glass after glass (it’s always riesling o’clock in the Mofo office). Get in before word spreads, because this is the new hottest riesling in town.

2x Penna Lane Skilly Valley Riesling 2022
White — Riesling
Clare Valley — Australia
Amongst the gumtrees and sunshine of Clare, some miracles truly do happen. I will forever remember the evening I sat drinking this in the company of this particularly small producer, in which multiple vintages of this wine went down an absolute treat. There’s a reason this humble wine ranked in James Suckling’s top 100 Australian wines. This particular sub-region for which it is named imparts subtly different nuances to the wines as compared to other Clare bottles. There are bright aromas of orange blossom and cool minerality on the nose, followed by a slightly peach-and-pineapple infused finish. If this sounds like a recipe for flabbiness, think again. The acidity here is electric, leaving you pleasantly refreshed with every sip.

2x Kilikanoon Golden Hillside Riesling 2021
White — Riesling
Clare Valley — Australia
Another year and another glorious vintage of one or our absolute favourites. We are still wondering if this “Golden Hillside” is an actual place, or a mythical place of the gods. The riesling from the Hillside is nothing short of heavenly, and the price suggests some sort of divine intervention. Plus, however high the vineyards of Clare Valley can get, surely those planted on celestial slopes are more so. How else would you get such an otherworldly balance of drool-worthy lime and sunshine-soaked lemons, refreshing minerality and cloudlike complexity? The bottle definitely says Clare Valley though.
You’d pay $45 full price.
