1x Reschke Empyrean Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
This might well be our new benchmark for Coonawarra cabernet. From an absolute Mofo favourite producer, and the ripping 2016 vintage - this is as good as Coonawarra cabernet gets around here. A wine that gets the utmost attention at every stage of the winemaking process: the vineyard is hand-pruned, keeping yields low and flavours concentrated. Only hand-selected new French oak is used for ageing. This has been resting in perfect conditions in the winery’s cellar for nearly a decade, so what was, in it’s youth, a massive, nearly explosive wine, to the point of perfect drinking with mind-blowing complexity and length. If you’re after the finest that Coonawarra can achieve, then this is it right here.
You’d pay $200 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Magarey Lane Glenroy Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Classic Coonawarra - cassis, blackcurrant and dark plums rule the fruit profile whilst the regional characters of eucalypt and allspice pick up the slack. As soon as this wine hits the glass, it's unmistakably Coonawarra, unashamedly bold and unsurprisingly vibrant. 18 months in a mix of French and American barrels brings a complexity to the oak profile and fullness that will leave this wine in seriously good nick for as long your patience lasts.
You’d pay $150 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Utopos Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Barossa Valley — Australia
In the glass, it’s a vibrant purple-crimson. The nose is alive with ripe satsuma plum, blueberry and blackberry, lifted by citrus blossom and violets. Then comes the complexity - layers of spice, liquorice, dark chocolate, fruitcake, olive tapenade, even an earthy note ortwo. The palate is plush and powerful, yet framed by fine, sandy tannins and pitch-perfect acidity that give it structure for the long haul. The winemaking is as traditional as it is thoughtful: hand-selected shiraz blocks across the undulating Utopos vineyard, touched with 3% cabernet and 3% mataro for lift and complexity, then matured for 18 months in seasoned French foudres and hogsheads. The result? A Barossa shiraz that’s both approachable in youth and destined for greatness over the next 10-20 years.
You’d pay $110 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Wills Domain Eightfold Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Margaret River — Australia
One of our go-to Margaret River producers has come up with the goods again! We love everything they do with cabernet and are always yearning for more. This one is from the strong 2020 vintage and boasts a big 95 points from Halliday. It’s super smooth, stylishly elegant and quite lifted on the nose with aromas of cherries and plums. Like all good Margs cab, it also has those herbal and spicy elements interlaced throughout. As things went so well in the vineyard in 2020, the need wasn’t there to drown the wine in oak. It’s there, but it’s quite subtle. The fruit speaks for itself and it is oh so eloquent.
You’d pay $80 full price.

1x Wolf Blass Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz 2016
Red — Cabernet Blend
Langhorne Creek — Australia
As powerful and delicious as it is legendary, we were re-introduced to this irresistibly drinkable iconic Australian blend at the tasting bench recently. We were humbled, and reminded once again of exactly what made this fine brand the leader it is today. Intense black fruits and spicy plums on the nose, it’s rich, concentrated and complex on the palate, with layers of liquorice and chocolate woven into the fruits. Power and elegance. Outstanding.
