The two winemakers here are Dan Standish and Jaysen Collins - two school mates who between them have Torbreck and Turkey Flat pedigree - and together they've built Massena into one of the Barossa's most quietly exciting operations. This is an example of what real regional expertise looks like.

Why do we love this wine?
The sixty-year-old Greenock Shiraz vines that form the backbone of this wine were days away from being ripped out of the ground. Low yields, not enough commercial interest, bulldozer on standby. It took repeated requests and some very persistent winemakers to stop the machinery and save what turned out to be something extraordinary. What ends up in the bottle is impenetrable, opaque and completely commanding. Black cherry, liquorice and dark plum on the nose, with dried herb, cedar and black pepper adding layers of complexity that just keep unfolding. The palate is rich, lavish and full-bodied - succulent dark fruit, dark chocolate, earth and fennel rolling across velvety tannins to a long, deeply satisfying finish.
