Why do we love this whisky?

Using carefully selected American oak barrels, this small batch was crafted to highlight a generously fruity profile of tropical mango, banoffee and papaya. Subtle hints of toasted coconut, hazelnut nougat and vanilla laced toffee provide balance and depth. Fresh baked pastry and citrus peel cap it off in a long and moreish finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

This small batch release showcases The Glenlivet's expertise in cask selection, using carefully chosen American oak barrels to create a distinctly tropical flavour profile. Unlike their core range whiskies, this expression emphasises exotic fruits like mango and papaya alongside traditional Speyside characteristics. The small batch nature means limited quantities with more focused flavour development, resulting in a more premium and unique drinking experience than their regular bottlings.

American oak barrels impart the whisky's signature vanilla and toffee notes while allowing the spirit's natural fruitiness to flourish over two decades of maturation. The wood's looser grain structure compared to European oak creates more interaction between spirit and barrel, contributing to the tropical fruit characteristics and coconut undertones. This cask type is particularly effective at developing the sweet, creamy textures that balance the whisky's natural Speyside elegance with rich, dessert-like flavours.

The whisky's tropical fruit profile pairs beautifully with rich desserts like banoffee pie, crème brûlée, or dark chocolate tarts that echo its natural sweetness. For savoury options, try it with aged cheeses, particularly those with nutty characteristics that complement the hazelnut nougat notes. The medium body and balanced sweetness also make it an excellent companion to spiced dishes or even quality cigars, where the vanilla and toffee elements provide a luxurious counterpoint.

At 20 years old with such developed complexity, this expression is best appreciated neat or with just a splash of water to open up the tropical fruit aromatics. The intricate balance of mango, papaya, and vanilla would be overwhelmed in most cocktails, making it too precious for mixing. However, it could work exceptionally well in a premium Old Fashioned where its natural sweetness reduces the need for additional sugar, allowing the whisky's sophisticated character to remain the star.

Store the bottle upright in a cool, dark place away from temperature fluctuations to preserve the delicate tropical fruit characteristics. Serve neat in a tulip-shaped glass at room temperature, allowing 10-15 minutes for the aromatics to develop fully. A few drops of room temperature water can help release the mango and papaya notes, but avoid ice which would mute the carefully developed flavours that took two decades to achieve.
