Why do we love this case?
If you are ever eyeing off a true 'unicorn wine' - something in the vein of Cheval Blanc or Petrus, then you're going to be shopping in Bordeaux and, specifically, the Right Bank of Bordeaux, among the giants of the global vino landscape. The Right Bank's preference for merlot dominant blends over cab sauv dominant blends makes for wines that are luxurious, rich and powerful.
1x Château Hauts de Granget Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019
Red — Merlot Blend
Bordeaux — France
We’re getting pretty good at finding exceptional Bordeaux at unbelievable pricing. Humble, I know. But sometimes it’s good to give yourself a little pat on the back. We think we earned it with this one. It’s Saint-Emilion Grand Cru composed of 85% merlot and 15% cab franc that’s hitting all the right notes. And we’re not the only ones that feel that way - this is a certified Mofo fave.
You’d pay $80 full price.

1x Château Laronde Desormes Bordeaux Supérieur 2014
Red — Cabernet Blend
Bordeaux — France
Left bank Bordeaux is some of the best wine in the world. That's no overstatement, and we doubt anyone would dispute this fact. The problem with these wines is that they need time to settle into themselves and really show their true colours, also, they're usually very, very, very expensive. You guessed it, that's where we come in! We've done the aging for you, this wasn't a forgotten about wine that's been sitting in the back of a truck for 10 years - this is carefully, professionally aged Bordeaux, we've even taken care of the price for you. All you have to do is pop the cork and let yourself be transported to the old world.
You’d pay $45 full price.

Red — Cabernet Blend

Hefty yet harmonious. By Bordeaux standards, this is a big wine - powerful tannin, subtle oak spice and a structure that has developed into the real backbone of this wine. A good period in the cellar has done absolute wonders for this wine, soft and silky, elegant even, despite the density of fruit. All elements of this wine are singing in perfect harmony, this could go further in the cellar for sure, but we think it's sitting in a really special spot right now. You can't rush perfection, that's true, but don't let it pass you by either...

1x Château Capet Duverger Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020
Red — Merlot Blend
Bordeaux — France
Château Capet Duverger is the perfect example of a co-op driven wine success story in France. This Grand Cru from Saint-Emilion is of course led by merlot with the remaining fruit being cabernet sauvignon. The grapes are fermented in a gravity-flow winery before being put to rest in 20% new French oak for 12 months. It’s ripe, approachable, spicy and lengthy. Plum and blackberry lead the way with notes of leather, mushroom, vanilla and caramel adding complexity. Like many of the more modern Right Bank wines, this can be enjoyed now, but would also benefit from more time in the cellar.
You’d pay $60 full price.

1x Château Mongravey Margaux 2018
Red — Cabernet Blend
Bordeaux — France
This Bordeaux, hailing from the Margaux appellation, is a cab-merlot blend with a touch of cab franc and a whole lotta charm. With a massive 97 points from DWWA, it’s an awesome expression of the area and anyone who loves Margaux will love this.
This wine is fresh and elegant, with the right amount of tannin soaking up delicious plum fruit. It’s juicy, full of red and black fruits and will go down an absolute treat with any of your favourite meats. Grab it for a special dinner with a special someone (or anyone really). It’ll please ’em all.
You’d pay $140 full price.

Red — Merlot Blend

There's two undeniable truths about right bank Bordeaux; first and foremost, it's completely brilliant, but, normally, you have to dish out the big bucks to get your hands on the good stuff. Well, that's where we come in, call it luck, call it fate, call it whatever you want, but the reality is that this wine is everything you'd expect from a premium, highly awarded, professionally-aged Bordeaux, for fraction of the price. From the legendary right bank of Bordeaux, this premium drop was built to impress and built to last. And gee whiz, it's met the brief. Still bursting with lifted aromatics of blackcurrant and violet, it’s now developing those savoury notes we all love: think tobacco, leather, a touch of spice and that silky, sleek 'Bordeaux-ness' that you can't quite put your finger on. There structure is firm, the finish long, and the potential? Huge. After paying its debt to the wine gods in the cellar (for 14 years), it’s drinking impeccably right now, but this stunner's journey is far from over... honestly this is the type of wine that will outlast your patience. A proper head-turner.
You’d pay $75 full price.
