Why do we love this case?

The St Émilion Gran Cru classification marks wines of excellence. This Gran Cru collection features wines of distinction that not only rise to the lofty expectations of their regionality but best them. If you are ever eyeing off a true 'unicorn wine' - something in the vein of Cheval Blanc or Petrus, then you're going to be shopping in Bordeaux and, specifically, the Right Bank of Bordeaux. That's where St Émilion resides, among the giants of the global vino landscape. The Right Bank's preference for merlot dominant blends over cab sauv dominant blends makes for wines that are luxurious, rich, powerful, and (importantly) approachable in youth.

2x Château Capet Duverger Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020

Red — Merlot Blend

Bordeaux — France

Château Capet Duverger is the perfect example of a co-op driven wine success story in France. This Grand Cru from Saint-Emilion is of course led by merlot with the remaining fruit being cabernet sauvignon. The grapes are fermented in a gravity-flow winery before being put to rest in 20% new French oak for 12 months. It’s ripe, approachable, spicy and lengthy. Plum and blackberry lead the way with notes of leather, mushroom, vanilla and caramel adding complexity. Like many of the more modern Right Bank wines, this can be enjoyed now, but would also benefit from more time in the cellar.

You'd pay $60 full price.

2x Château Hauts de Granget Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019

Red — Merlot Blend

Bordeaux — France

We’re getting pretty good at finding exceptional Bordeaux at unbelievable pricing. Humble, I know. But sometimes it’s good to give yourself a little pat on the back. We think we earned it with this one. It’s Saint-Emilion Grand Cru composed of 85% merlot and 15% cab franc that’s hitting all the right notes. And we’re not the only ones that feel that way - this is a certified Mofo fave.

You'd pay $80 full price.

Bordeaux — France

The stars of the Right-Bank are on show here with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc complimenting one another to deliver a wine of the utmost composure — elegance, purity and all of that Bordeaux sophistication. Frequently Asked Questions

St Émilion Grand Cru represents the pinnacle of Right Bank Bordeaux winemaking, where legendary estates like Cheval Blanc and Petrus have set the global standard. The classification system ensures only wines of exceptional quality earn this prestigious designation. Unlike Left Bank Bordeaux which favours Cabernet Sauvignon, St Émilion's merlot-dominant blends create wines that are both powerful and approachable when young, offering immediate pleasure alongside long-term ageing potential.

The Right Bank's preference for merlot as the dominant grape variety creates wines with softer tannins and rounder textures compared to the more austere Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines of the Left Bank. Merlot's naturally plush character means these Grand Cru wines offer immediate drinking pleasure while still possessing the structure for decades of cellaring. This combination of power and approachability makes them ideal for both special occasions and gradual exploration of your cellar.

These medium-bodied wines showcase the textured, savoury style that defines quality St Émilion, with a complex interplay of dark fruits like plum and blackberry alongside more nuanced notes of cranberry. The oak influence brings cedar and spicebox elements, while bottle age develops sophisticated leather and allspice characteristics. This flavour complexity reflects the terroir diversity across different Grand Cru estates, each contributing their unique expression to the collection.

The standout 96-point DWWA 2022 rating demonstrates exceptional quality that places these wines among the world's finest, while consistent 90+ scores from James Suckling confirm their outstanding status. The 4.1 Vivino rating across all vintages shows strong consumer appreciation over time. These ratings collectively indicate wines that not only meet but exceed the high expectations set by the St Émilion Grand Cru classification, representing genuine value at this prestigious level.

This curated selection allows you to explore how different estates interpret the St Émilion terroir, with each château bringing distinct winemaking philosophies and vineyard characteristics to their Grand Cru expressions. The vintage variation adds another dimension, showcasing how seasonal conditions influence these premium sites. Rather than committing to a single producer's style, you're experiencing the breadth and diversity that makes St Émilion one of Bordeaux's most dynamic and exciting regions.
