Why do we love this case?
Few regions do Cabernet quite like Coonawarra. Famous for its terra rossa soils and distinctive Cabernet style, this is a region built on structure, elegance, dark fruit and serious ageing potential - and this selection brings together some cracking examples.
From Patrick of Coonawarra and Magarey Lane to Penley Estate, Stonehaven, Brand & Sons and Parker Estate, there’s plenty of regional pedigree on show. Expect beautifully structured reds with depth, fine tannins and that unmistakable Coonawarra character running throughout.
For Cabernet lovers, this is one iconic region well worth exploring.
1x Magarey Lane Glenroy Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Classic Coonawarra - cassis, blackcurrant and dark plums rule the fruit profile whilst the regional characters of eucalypt and allspice pick up the slack. As soon as this wine hits the glass, it's unmistakably Coonawarra, unashamedly bold and unsurprisingly vibrant. 18 months in a mix of French and American barrels brings a complexity to the oak profile and fullness that will leave this wine in seriously good nick for as long your patience lasts.

1x Brand & Sons Yates Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
There’s something unmistakably Coonawarra about this Cabernet (and it's not just the name 'Brand' stamped all over the label – red earth, a cool lift of mint, and that plush core of blackcurrant fruit. It’s a wine with both boots-on-the-ground authenticity and its own form of gutsy finesse. Red earth caked under fingernails. Akubra tilted just right. This is the real deal.

Premium cab from Coonawarra doesn’t easily come at this price, just so you know. So just feel a little bit special being here, with us and this wine, right now. This is one of those wines that reminds us of the golden era of wine quality-meets-affordability. It’s full-bodied but lithe at the same time - deep and rich, but with composure and purpose. This winery’s put a lot of time, energy and money into making their wines relatable to the current climate of Coonawarra, and we’re reaping the rewards in stacks of quality wine. Bravo.

1x Patrick of Coonawarra Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Patrick of Coonawarra, you've done it again... From pretty much the best cabernet vintage Coonawarra has ever seen, we've been handed a gift, and it just keeps giving and giving and giving... Ask anyone, serious Coonawarra cabernet like this is hard to get your hands on. What you won’t find in this wine, is that peppermint choc-chip ice-cream flavour. Rather, you’d find a subtle, smooth cedar, tobacco and dark chocolate characters with fine elegant tannins that effortlessly slide down the throat. Even the most staunch lover of shiraz will agree that there’s no better red wine match with slow cooked lamb than aged Cabernet and one can only imagine how good this will be after an hour in the decanter. This one's half a decade old, but it's still looking youthful, a positive sign for a decade or more still to come.

1x Parker Estate Abbey Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
An exceptional showcase of time and place. This wine could only be from Coonawarra, only from 2021 and - if we're being real - only from Parker Estate. This wine will be drinking beautifully from right now until 2035 - to make a conservative estimate. Sourced from Parker Estate's renowned ‘Abbey’ vineyard in southern Coonawarra - where the unique microclimate delivers a longer ripening season and the world-famous terra rossa soils make their mark on every single grape. The result? A tighter tannin structure, deeper fruit concentration, and serious cellar-worthy swagger. That said, this wine is drinking wonderfully already, at such a young age, and those who like their wines with a bit of grunt will find happiness in its graceful austerity. Or, if you're one for cellaring, dig a whole in the backyard, set you're alarm for 2035 and forget about it. The magic of stelvin-sealed bottle development will take care of the rest.

1x Stonehaven Limited Vineyard Release Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Coonawarra doesn't do average Cabernet. The region's too proud for that, the terra rossa soils too good, the reputation too hard-earned. What it does do — reliably, almost annoyingly - is produce some of the most structured, elegant, deeply satisfying cabernet in the country, if not the world. Here's a perfect example of that. Stonehaven's Limited Vineyard Release is a textbook high-quality Coonawarra cab - and the accolades back it up. Two separate 95-point reviews. A Halliday Special Value Award at full retail price. This is a wine that keeps getting recognised, and for good reason. Blackberry, dark cherry and boysenberry lead the charge, with cedar, cocoa, sage and a whisper of cigar pouch adding layers of complexity you wouldn't see coming. The palate is full-bodied and focused - blue fruit and cassis through the middle, tobacco and dark chocolate underneath, fine tannins pulling it all into a long, refined finish. Rich enough to impress at a dinner table. Approachable enough to crack on a Tuesday. Classic Coonawarra cab with genuine depth and poise. The awards aren't lying. This one's the real deal.
