1x Chateau Yaldara 1847 First Pick Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

The Boss

So much has been written about Barossa shiraz, especially at the top end in terms of quality. This one might just sit in pole position, revealing layer after layer of complexity. It's aromatic, hinting at violets, boysenberry, tapenade and potpourri. Then you have a sip...blackberry, cocoa, vanillin, baking spices and a touch of toastiness. The tannins are there of course, but bathed in sweet fruit notes and a creamy texture. This is big, this is bold, this is all that Barossa strives to be.

You'd pay $500 full price.

1x Chateau Yaldara 1847 Grand Pappy's Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

The Boss

We all know the Barossa, and likely this icon of a wine, but do we really know it’s history? Introducing to you pioneers of this famed region, with this winery established over 150 years ago. They show no mercy when it comes to staying true to the region: meaty, bold, and focused reds with a whole lot of character. You know what we’re talking about: eye-catching hues of purple, soft and silky tannins, and more plummy goodness than you can poke a stick at. There’s cherry and rhubarb sure, but we’re talking unapologetic notes of chocolate, toasty oak and handfuls of freshly cracked pepper. It’s a showstopper, and built to impress even the most discerning of critics.

You'd pay $350 full price.

1x Curtis Martin's Vineyard Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

A special series wine from a prominent McLaren Vale winery isn’t something that’s easy to get our hands on. And we mean, sometimes this stuff can’t even be picked up when you bang on the doors of wineries themselves. So, safe to say we were jumping for joy to land this beauty from Curtis. Intensely dense, which sounds just as smooth as it drinks. Heightened aromas of blackcurrant and black cherries waft enticingly from the decanter, which help to open this to its full potential. The oak influence is superbly balanced, helping to lift the marked quality of the fruit and give this beauty the longevity it deserves. Sometimes you say we spoil you mofos, and we’re starting to think that you’re right.

You'd pay $199 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

These aren't just any three wines thrown together - they're the most beloved and highest-rated wines from the collection, each earning exceptional scores from respected critics like Ray Jordan (98pts) and Wine Orbit (97pts). The trio represents a carefully curated selection of customer favourites, ensuring you're getting proven crowd-pleasers rather than experimental choices. This approach eliminates the guesswork often associated with mixed cases, giving you confidence that every bottle will deliver.

The 2020 vintage was exceptional across multiple regions, producing Shiraz with remarkable consistency and quality. Having all three from the same year allows you to explore how different producers and vineyard sites express Shiraz's character while maintaining vintage consistency. This creates a fascinating comparative tasting experience where terroir and winemaking style become the variables, rather than vintage conditions, making it educational for understanding regional differences in Australian Shiraz.

The trio showcases Shiraz's incredible versatility through a spectrum of rich, full-bodied expressions featuring blackberry, plum, and coffee notes enhanced by chocolate, vanilla, and warming allspice. Each wine likely emphasises different aspects of these flavours - some may lean more toward dark fruit intensity while others highlight spice complexity or oak integration. This creates a progressive tasting journey that demonstrates how the same varietal can offer distinctly different yet harmonious flavour experiences.

Chateau Yaldara represents one of Australia's historic wine estates, and including two different expressions from their 1847 range demonstrates the producer's ability to craft distinct styles from premium fruit. The 'First Pick' and 'Grand Pappy's' likely represent different vineyard blocks or winemaking approaches, showcasing how a single producer can create varied expressions of Shiraz. This gives you insight into how established Australian wineries approach varietal diversity within their premium ranges.

Given these are 2020 full-bodied Shiraz wines with exceptional critical scores, they're perfectly positioned for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term cellaring. The rich flavour profiles and structured tannins typical of quality Shiraz suggest they'll develop beautifully over 5-8 years, with fruit flavours evolving into more complex secondary characters. However, their current acclaim indicates they're already drinking superbly, so you can enjoy one now and cellar the others to experience how they transform with age.
