Why do we love this case?

We love it when the critics agree (and all of these wines have received top marks from the worlds best wine minds), but the real proof is in the broader crowd reception. Vivino allows us to gather the thoughts of the drinking many, rather than the critical few. And the consensus is well and truly in on this one: the people love it.

1x Curtis Martin's Vineyard Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

A special series wine from a prominent McLaren Vale winery isn’t something that’s easy to get our hands on. And we mean, sometimes this stuff can’t even be picked up when you bang on the doors of wineries themselves. So, safe to say we were jumping for joy to land this beauty from Curtis. Intensely dense, which sounds just as smooth as it drinks. Heightened aromas of blackcurrant and black cherries waft enticingly from the decanter, which help to open this to its full potential. The oak influence is superbly balanced, helping to lift the marked quality of the fruit and give this beauty the longevity it deserves. Sometimes you say we spoil you mofos, and we’re starting to think that you’re right.

You'd pay $199 full price.

Coonawarra — Australia

If you’re looking for something that’ll satisfy you on the most indulgent of occassions, look no further. It’s easy to fall in love with this Coonawarra beauty, not only for the eye-catching packaging but for the incredible wine that it promises inside. The Nightfall range is a side-project of renowned winemaker Sam Brand, and has been shortlisted for Halliday’s Best New Winery this year- so you know they’re really about the goods. This classic single vineyard drop is the real pristine stuff. Impressively ripe with a palate displaying cassis, chocolate and tobacco, this wine is complex and well structured. A great one to whip out at dinner when the conversation is getting nice and intense.

1x Archery Road Bullseye Shiraz 2015

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Here is one show-stopping, chart-topping shiraz that’s ready and roaring. While this is drinking perfectly now, do be warned - it’s quite the blockbuster! Handcrafted from the finest grapes of their Barossa vineyard, this does what we look for the most in these wines; rich, full-bodied and full of aromatic lift. Moroccan spices and dense black fruits such as blackberries and black cherry. All of course handled beautifully with high quality oak and supporting fine tannins. A blockbuster with a really great plot.

You'd pay $150 full price.

1x Chateau Yaldara 1847 Grand Pappy's Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

The Boss

We all know the Barossa, and likely this icon of a wine, but do we really know it’s history? Introducing to you pioneers of this famed region, with this winery established over 150 years ago. They show no mercy when it comes to staying true to the region: meaty, bold, and focused reds with a whole lot of character. You know what we’re talking about: eye-catching hues of purple, soft and silky tannins, and more plummy goodness than you can poke a stick at. There’s cherry and rhubarb sure, but we’re talking unapologetic notes of chocolate, toasty oak and handfuls of freshly cracked pepper. It’s a showstopper, and built to impress even the most discerning of critics.

You'd pay $350 full price.

1x Haselgrove The Lear Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

Vintage after vintage this wine is awarded 95+pts - critics go wild for this shiraz and with good reason. It’s rich, full-bodied and brimming with luxurious, fruity, chocolatey notes. There’s some of the very best grapes in the region here, held together by a generous touch of French oak. Drink now or cellar for the next decade and a half. From experience, though, you’ll crack this out well before then. Whether you open it or not, it’s the lowest risk investment you’ll make this year… and the returns are delicious.

You'd pay $120 full price.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

This wine will be a special treat for the mofos who get their hands on a case, of which there aren’t many available. It’s a cellar release that has 10 years of ageing, developing and improving in its future. It’s a cuvèe that is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for the site.

Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish.

You'd pay $85 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vivino aggregates reviews from thousands of everyday wine drinkers rather than relying on just a handful of professional critics. This crowd-sourced approach provides a more democratic view of wine quality, as it reflects how wines actually taste to regular consumers in real-world drinking situations. The 4.3+ star threshold represents wines that have consistently impressed a broad audience, making these selections particularly trustworthy for everyday enjoyment.

This curated selection spans multiple vintages because exceptional wines don't follow a calendar - they emerge when perfect conditions align with skilled winemaking. The inclusion of a 2012 Reschke and 2015 Archery Road alongside newer releases demonstrates how great wines can maintain their appeal over time. Older vintages often offer additional complexity from bottle ageing, while newer releases showcase contemporary winemaking techniques.

The selection's flavour spectrum from chocolate and vanilla to eucalyptus and bay leaf creates a comprehensive tasting journey through Australian red wine styles. These complementary profiles allow you to explore how different regions and varietals express similar underlying characteristics - for instance, how Shiraz develops chocolate notes in cooler climates versus spicier allspice characters in warmer areas. This diversity makes the selection perfect for comparative tastings or pairing with various cuisines.

James Halliday's five-star winery rating represents the pinnacle of Australian wine production, awarded only to producers who consistently create wines of exceptional quality across their entire range. This rating system evaluates not just individual wines but the winery's overall track record, winemaking philosophy, and vineyard management. Having wines from five-star rated wineries in this selection ensures you're experiencing the work of Australia's most accomplished and reliable producers.

Most wines in this selection are drinking beautifully now, having already received their high ratings at current maturity levels. However, the presence of museum releases and older vintages like the 2012 Reschke suggests these wines have excellent cellaring potential for those who prefer more developed flavours. The variety of vintages allows you to enjoy some immediately while potentially laying down others for future occasions, giving you flexibility in your drinking timeline.
