Why do we love this wine?

Simply put: this is phenomenal wine. Made from old vines and sourced from two vineyards, the fruit is treated with gentle, loving care in the winery before being laid to rest in 30% new French oak. The result is an elegant and powerful wine that leaps from the glass with immense complexity. There’s blueberry, blackberry, plum, baking spices and cedar on both the nose and palate. Of course with a wine of this magnitude, there is no rush to drink so feel free to let it rest for a decade or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

This LE Shiraz stands out through its dual-vineyard sourcing and old vine fruit, which provides exceptional concentration and complexity. The gentle winemaking approach combined with 30% new French oak creates an elegant expression that balances power with finesse. Unlike many Barossa Shiraz that can be overtly bold, this wine demonstrates restraint while maintaining the region's characteristic richness and depth.

With its impressive 96-point ratings and full-bodied structure, this wine has excellent cellaring potential of a decade or more. The combination of old vine fruit, quality oak integration, and natural acidity provides the backbone for extended ageing. While drinking beautifully now, the wine will develop greater complexity and tertiary flavours over the next 10-15 years, with the tannins softening and the fruit evolving into more savoury, earthy notes.

The wine's rich profile with chocolate, mulberry, and black olive notes makes it perfect for robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb, aged beef steaks, or game meats. The baking spice and cedar elements complement dishes with herbs like rosemary and thyme, while the wine's structure can handle rich sauces and strong cheeses. Consider pairing with dark chocolate desserts to echo the wine's natural chocolate characteristics.

The vegan certification indicates that no animal-derived fining agents were used during the winemaking process. Traditional fining agents like egg whites, isinglass, or gelatin are sometimes used to clarify wines, but this Shiraz achieves its clarity through alternative methods. This approach aligns with modern sustainable winemaking practices and ensures the wine maintains its natural character while being accessible to vegan consumers without compromising quality.

Receiving 96 points from both Wine Pilot and Wine Orbit demonstrates exceptional consistency and quality recognition across different tasting panels. Scores in the 96-point range indicate a wine of outstanding character with no significant flaws and remarkable complexity. The fact that two independent critics awarded identical high scores suggests this Shiraz represents exceptional value and craftsmanship, placing it among Australia's finest examples of the variety.
