Why do we love this wine?

The RP pinot is a tribute to Robyn Pamela, the matriarch of the Farr family and loving Mum to Nick Farr and Gary Farr's wife. A single vineyard pinot that is sourced from the Cote vineyard, a close planted, high-density vineyard that sits on an exposed cote (a slope or hillside). With a variety of different exposures, and soil types the final wine is an equal sum of all of its parts — perfumed, fine and detailed with an abundance of fruit. As the family can always count on their Mum, the Farr's can always count on this vineyard providing a wine that will be the backbone of the family's dynasty for many years to come. A must for any serious wine lover or collector.

Frequently Asked Questions

The RP comes from the Cote vineyard, a high-density planting on an exposed hillside with varied exposures and soil types. This diversity creates complexity in the final wine, as different sections of the vineyard contribute unique characteristics that blend together. The challenging, exposed site forces the vines to work harder, concentrating flavours and developing the fine, detailed structure that Geelong Pinot Noir is renowned for.

Geelong's cool maritime climate and volcanic soils produce Pinot Noirs with exceptional elegance and finesse, perfectly demonstrated in this RP bottling. The region's proximity to the coast moderates temperatures, allowing for slow, even ripening that preserves the variety's natural acidity and perfumed aromatics. This creates wines that balance power with restraint, showing both immediate appeal and long-term cellaring potential.

The wine's sour cherry and thyme notes make it ideal for herb-crusted lamb, duck breast with cherry sauce, or mushroom risotto. Its light body and elegant structure won't overpower delicate proteins like salmon or game birds. The earthy thyme character also complements roasted vegetables and aged cheeses, while the bright acidity cuts through rich, creamy sauces beautifully.

Collectibility isn't about weight but about provenance, terroir expression, and aging potential. By Farr's Five Red Star Halliday rating reflects their consistent excellence, while the single-vineyard sourcing ensures this wine captures a specific place and time. Light-bodied Pinot Noirs often age more gracefully than heavier styles, developing complex secondary flavours while maintaining their elegant structure over 8-12 years.

Serve slightly below room temperature at 14-16°C to highlight the wine's perfumed aromatics and fine tannin structure. While approachable now, this vintage will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring to integrate fully. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature - the 2022's natural acidity and quality fruit will reward patient collectors with increased complexity and silky texture development.
