This wine has aged remarkably well. So much so that we had to double-check the vintage on the label (a couple of times). There's a vibrancy to the fruit that's seldom seen in wines of this age, particularly from Bordeaux. That said, the development and tertiary aspects of leather, tobacco, and enduring tannin are large part of what makes this wine so special.

Why do we love this wine?

Left bank Bordeaux is some of the best wine in the world. That's no overstatement, and we doubt anyone would dispute this fact. The problem with these wines is that they need time to settle into themselves and really show their true colours, also, they're usually very, very, very expensive. You guessed it, that's where we come in! We've done the aging for you, this wasn't a forgotten about wine that's been sitting in the back of a truck for 10 years - this is carefully, professionally aged Bordeaux, we've even taken care of the price for you. All you have to do is pop the cork and let yourself be transported to the old world.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Château Laronde Desormes has been professionally aged for nearly a decade, allowing the tannins to soften and the complex flavours to integrate beautifully. Left Bank Bordeaux typically requires 8-15 years to reach optimal drinking condition, and this 2014 vintage has hit that sweet spot where the leather, spice, and tobacco notes have mellowed into harmonious complexity. The careful ageing process means you can enjoy it immediately without the usual decade-long wait that premium Bordeaux demands.

Bordeaux Supérieur represents a step up from basic Bordeaux AOC, requiring stricter production standards including lower yields, higher minimum alcohol levels, and longer ageing before release. This designation often indicates more concentrated fruit and greater complexity, which explains the textured, savoury profile of this wine. The 'Supérieur' classification ensures you're getting a more serious expression of Bordeaux terroir at a fraction of the cost of prestigious Left Bank estates.

These distinctive tertiary flavours emerge through bottle ageing as the wine's primary fruit characteristics evolve and integrate with oak influences. The leather notes develop from tannin polymerisation and protein precipitation, while tobacco aromas arise from the breakdown of phenolic compounds over time. This natural evolution is what separates aged Bordeaux from young wines - the spice, leather, and tobacco create a sophisticated flavour profile that can't be rushed or artificially replicated.

The textured, savoury character and leather-spice-tobacco profile make this ideal for rich, umami-driven dishes like aged beef, lamb with herbs, or duck confit. The medium body won't overpower lighter meats, while the developed tannins can handle robust flavours like mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses. Classic French pairings include coq au vin or beef bourguignon, where the wine's earthy complexity complements the dish's depth without competing.

Absolutely - most Left Bank Bordeaux from prestigious appellations like Pauillac or Saint-Julien would cost significantly more, especially with this level of professional ageing and critical recognition. The Gold medal from Berlin Wine Show and 4.1 Vivino rating demonstrate quality that typically commands premium prices. Getting a properly aged 2014 Bordeaux Supérieur at this price point represents exceptional value, as you're accessing the complexity and elegance of mature Bordeaux without the usual investment required.
