Why do we love this wine?

If you’re the kind of wine buyer looking for the best wine at the best price, look no further. Saint-Émilion grand cru rarely ever starts at a price like this. Even we did a double take! With a super high average score among wine-loving Vivino users, it’s a ‘get it while it’s hot’ limited red. A classic right-bank blend of merlot and cabernet franc, expect an inky red in your glass. Plums and dark cherries intertwine with cedar, expanding with a richness that tapers to a classic finish. There is also an edge of earthy notes here, only found in wonderfully earnest Bordeaux. French oak and gravelly tannins, it has it all to keep you wanting more. Perfect to cellar, yet, even better to drink, after all, people say life is short. While we are here we may as well sip grand cru, live long and prosper. Château le Loup Saint-Émilion grand cru, we love you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines typically command premium prices due to their prestigious classification and limited production from Bordeaux's right bank. This Château le Loup represents rare access to this elite tier at an unusually accessible price point. The Grand Cru designation requires strict quality standards and vineyard classification, making this an opportunity to experience authentic Bordeaux nobility without the usual investment.

This classic right-bank Bordeaux blend showcases merlot's plush fruit character balanced by cabernet franc's structural backbone and spice. Merlot contributes the wine's approachable plum and dark cherry flavours, while cabernet franc adds the cedar notes and textural complexity. This combination creates the signature Saint-Émilion style - more immediately appealing than left-bank wines, yet with enough structure for proper ageing.

While this 2021 vintage is already showing beautifully with its rich fruit and integrated tannins, it has excellent cellaring potential for 8-12 years. The French oak and gravelly tannin structure will allow the wine to develop greater complexity and tertiary flavours over time. However, given life's uncertainties and the wine's current drinking pleasure, there's equal merit in enjoying it now while appreciating its youthful vibrancy.

The wine's textured, savoury profile and allspice notes make it ideal for roasted lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged hard cheeses. The cedar and earthy characteristics complement mushroom-based dishes and game meats beautifully. Its medium body won't overpower lighter proteins like duck or pork tenderloin, while the merlot's fruit sweetness balances rich, herb-crusted preparations.

A 4.3 rating on Vivino represents exceptional quality, as this platform aggregates reviews from millions of wine consumers worldwide. For a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, this score indicates the wine consistently delivers on both quality expectations and drinking pleasure. The rating reflects real consumer experiences rather than just professional critics, suggesting this wine offers genuine satisfaction across diverse palates and occasions.
