Why do we love this wine?

We just love Burgundy, red or white, we don't care just get it in our glass. We could easily drink it any time we wanted a wine (if someone else was paying that is). Prices from well-known appellations and big time producers continue to sky rocket, but fear not burg lovers — enter Domaine Lemoule. From a small area in the far north of Burgundy, just west of Chablis. This is a wine for people in the know. A wine that you bring to your most wine geeky friends house and they are just begging you to tell them where you got it from. Red Burgundy that still represents good value. Full of appeal, freshness and drinkability, this burg has dinner party written all over. A joy to drink now and over the next 5+ years.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Domaine Lemoule comes from a lesser-known area in northern Burgundy, just west of Chablis, which allows it to offer authentic Burgundian character without the premium pricing of famous appellations like Gevrey-Chambertin or Vosne-Romanée. The producer focuses on traditional winemaking methods in this cooler climate zone, delivering the classic elegance and terroir expression that Burgundy is renowned for. It's essentially an insider's secret - genuine Burgundy AOC quality that wine enthusiasts can actually afford to drink regularly.

Being light-bodied with elegant strawberry and sour cherry notes, this Pinot Noir shines when served slightly cool at around 14-16°C, which enhances its fresh acidity and delicate fruit character. The mushroom undertones make it perfect for earthy dishes like roasted chicken with herbs, duck breast, or wild mushroom risotto. Its refined structure also complements salmon, tuna, or even charcuterie boards, making it incredibly versatile for dinner parties.

This 2023 vintage is beautifully approachable right now, showcasing vibrant fruit flavours and that characteristic Burgundian freshness that makes it so appealing. However, Burgundy Pinot Noir typically develops greater complexity with age, and this wine has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5-7 years. If you cellar it, expect the bright cherry notes to integrate further while developing more savoury, earthy characteristics that Burgundy collectors prize.

A 90-point score from James Suckling places this wine in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that stands well above average wines in its price range. This rating suggests the wine demonstrates excellent varietal character, proper balance, and aging potential - particularly impressive for a Burgundy at this accessible price point. When combined with staff selection, it indicates both critical acclaim and practical drinkability that wine professionals would personally choose.

This northern Burgundy location benefits from the same cool continental climate that makes Chablis famous, but applied to red wine production rather than Chardonnay. The cooler temperatures allow Pinot Noir to ripen slowly, preserving the bright acidity and elegant fruit character while developing the mineral complexity that defines great Burgundy. This terroir produces wines with finesse rather than power, creating that distinctive 'lighter, elegant' style that separates true Burgundy from heavier New World Pinot Noirs.
