So immense, yet so elegant it defies belief. This is hedonism in a bottle, fully gratifying, confident and powerful, but never teetering over the edge.

Why do we love this wine?

So much has been written about Barossa shiraz, especially at the top end in terms of quality. This one might just sit in pole position, revealing layer after layer of complexity. It's aromatic, hinting at violets, boysenberry, tapenade and potpourri. Then you have a sip...blackberry, cocoa, vanillin, baking spices and a touch of toastiness. The tannins are there of course, but bathed in sweet fruit notes and a creamy texture. This is big, this is bold, this is all that Barossa strives to be. Treat yourself...

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cream represents the pinnacle of Barossa Shiraz craftsmanship, earning an exceptional 96 points from James Halliday. Its complexity unfolds in distinct layers - from violet and boysenberry aromatics to rich blackberry and cocoa flavours, all wrapped in a signature creamy texture that gives the wine its name. This small batch release demonstrates why Barossa Valley remains Australia's most celebrated Shiraz region, combining power with remarkable finesse.

The 2021 vintage in Barossa delivered ideal conditions for premium Shiraz production, resulting in concentrated fruit with excellent natural acidity. This vintage showcases the perfect balance between the region's signature boldness and elegant structure, allowing the wine's complex aromatics of tapenade and potpourri to shine alongside its rich fruit core. The vintage's quality is reflected in the wine's exceptional critical acclaim and drinking potential.

This wine's rich blackberry and cocoa notes, combined with baking spices and creamy tannins, make it ideal for robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or game meats. The wine's complexity also pairs beautifully with strong cheeses, particularly aged cheddar or blue cheese, while its spice elements complement dishes featuring cloves, black pepper, or Mediterranean herbs.

Serve at 16-18°C to allow the wine's complex aromatics and layered flavours to fully express themselves. Decanting for 30-60 minutes will help integrate the tannins and enhance the creamy texture. Store horizontally in a cool, dark place at 12-15°C - this wine has excellent cellaring potential and will continue developing complexity over the next 8-12 years, though it's drinking beautifully now.

Small batch production allows First Drop to exercise meticulous control over every aspect of winemaking, from hand-selecting the finest Barossa fruit to careful barrel management. This approach enables the winemaker to craft wines with exceptional concentration and complexity, as evidenced by the multiple layers of flavour and the wine's creamy, integrated texture. Limited production also means each bottle represents a more exclusive expression of the vintage and terroir.
