Why do we love this wine?

When Margaret River adjusts all the buttons on the equalizer to high, this is what you get. Full treble. Full mids. Full bass! Yep - the pre-amp is on and dialed to 11. Take in the nose and you’re immediately hit with kirsch and kir. Full throttle baby. It’s not all drum and bass. There are some lighter ‘acoustic notes’ of thyme and cedary French oak.

Opulent on the palate, the texture here is viscous velvet riding a bed of finely grained tannins. All your cabernet buttons get pushed. Cassis. Varietal leafiness. Spice, blackcurrant and bramble. It begs for lamb and while it’s good-to-go for a fancy dinner right now, it’s true colours will shine through in a couple of decades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Margaret River's maritime climate creates perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, with warm days and cool nights that allow for extended ripening periods. This results in wines with intense fruit concentration while maintaining natural acidity and elegant tannin structure. The region's gravelly soils and Mediterranean-style climate mirror some of Bordeaux's best terroir, which is why Margaret River Cabernet consistently shows such exceptional depth and complexity.

While this Cabernet is drinking beautifully now, it's built for the long haul with at least two decades of cellaring potential. The full-bodied structure, quality French oak integration, and finely grained tannins suggest it will continue developing complexity through 2040 and beyond. Store it in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature, and you'll be rewarded with even greater integration of fruit, oak, and tertiary flavours as it matures.

This full-bodied Cabernet demands rich, protein-heavy dishes that can match its intensity. Classic lamb preparations are perfect - think herb-crusted rack of lamb or slow-braised lamb shanks. The wine's savoury herbaceous notes and structured tannins also complement aged beef, game meats, and hard cheeses. The French oak influence makes it particularly suited to dishes with earthy elements like mushrooms or rosemary.

While the specific meaning isn't detailed, 'SRS' likely refers to a special selection or single vineyard designation within Flametree's range. Premium producers often use such codes to distinguish their top-tier wines made from exceptional fruit sources or specific winemaking techniques. Given this wine's intensity and complexity, it represents Flametree's commitment to showcasing the very best expression of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon from their finest vineyard blocks.

The 2019 vintage in Margaret River was exceptional due to ideal growing conditions that produced wines of outstanding concentration and balance. Cool, wet winters provided excellent soil moisture, followed by a warm, dry growing season that allowed for perfect ripening without stress. This combination resulted in wines with intense fruit flavours, excellent natural acidity, and well-integrated tannins - exactly what you see in this powerhouse Cabernet that showcases the vintage's full potential.
