Securing a bottle from the legendary Clayvin site is always a cause for celebration, and this 2019 release is nothing short of spectacular. Lift the glass and you're immediately greeted by an intoxicating blend of dark cherry, earthy forest floor and subtle dried herbs. On the palate, it delivers a complete masterclass in texture. Ripe blackberry and savoury mushroom notes intertwine beautifully, wrapped tightly around a core of fine, chalky tannins. There's an undeniable depth here, leading into a fiercely focused, persistent finish that promises years of incredible drinking ahead.

Why do we love this wine?
The Clayvin vineyard holds a truly hallowed place in New Zealand winemaking history. Planted back in 1993 in the Brancott Valley, it was Marlborough's very first significant hillside vineyard. What makes this site so extraordinarily special is its high-density planting and heavy clay soils, a combination that forces the roots deep underground and naturally restricts yields. The team at Fromm have nurtured these vines organically for decades to extract the absolute maximum expression of the land. Because the 2019 vintage provided immaculate growing conditions, the resulting Pinot Noir showcases a phenomenal balance of power and restraint. It's a profound, beautifully structured wine that proves exactly why this particular slope is revered by collectors all over the world.
