Why do we love this wine?

Rated a 9/10 vintage from the Halliday Wine Companion, 2021 in Barossa provided perfect conditions for high quality and yields. Gee, this producer has been popular with our mofo members by providing solid, true-to-style wines time and again. This is a bold shiraz. Deep, dark and rich. A partial whole bunch fermentation contributes to herbaceous aromatics alongside deep, fleshy blood plums. A good 14 months maturation in oak barrels frames the fruit over the palate with notes of chocolate and an exotic tobacco finish will linger. It’s a smart wine, ready to enjoy now and in ten years given the right cellaring.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2021 vintage earned a rare 9/10 rating from the Halliday Wine Companion due to exceptional growing conditions in the Barossa Valley. Perfect weather patterns delivered both high quality fruit and generous yields, creating an ideal balance that allowed winemakers to craft wines with concentrated flavours while maintaining elegance. This vintage represents one of the standout years for Australian Shiraz in recent memory.

Partial whole bunch fermentation involves including grape stems during fermentation, which adds structural complexity and herbaceous aromatics to the wine. This technique contributes green, spicy notes that complement the deep plum fruit flavours, creating a more sophisticated flavour profile. The stems also provide additional tannins and help integrate the oak influence, resulting in a wine with greater textural interest and aging potential.

This rich, full-bodied Shiraz pairs beautifully with robust dishes that can match its intensity and chocolate-tobacco finish. Think grilled lamb with rosemary, slow-cooked beef brisket, or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar. The wine's deep plum flavours and oak integration also complement barbecued meats and dishes with earthy mushroom or pepper-based sauces.

This Shiraz is designed for both immediate enjoyment and extended cellaring up to ten years with proper storage conditions. The 14-month oak maturation has provided sufficient structure for aging, while the concentrated fruit from the excellent 2021 vintage ensures the wine will develop complexity over time. Drink now for vibrant fruit expression, or cellar for 5-10 years to experience evolved tertiary flavours and softer tannins.

Receiving 95 points from both Wine Pilot and Sam Kim, plus recognition from Halliday's Five Star rated winery status, indicates exceptional quality and consistency in winemaking. These high scores from respected critics suggest the wine demonstrates outstanding varietal character, perfect balance, and superior craftsmanship. Such unanimous critical acclaim typically indicates a wine that over-delivers for its price point and represents excellent value.
