JB Bachevillier Mont Joly Beaujolais Villlages 2019
- Textured, savoury
- Beaujolais
When young Beaujolais native Jean-Baptiste is asked what influences his winemaking, the response is simple: “passion guides me”. He boasts an illustrious career, galavanting around the globe doing vintages from Australia’s McLaren Vale (Coriole) to USA’s Sonoma (Chalk Hill), and all over Europe (including England) and with famous French producers, such as in Northern Rhone (Yves Cuilleron). Quite a curated apprenticeship, which ultimately lead to an insanely ambitious dream being realised. A rare opportunity to acquire the Domaine du Mont Joly, in Beaujolais. With these ancient granite soils, and 2.5 hectares of vines, it’s all about gamay and the unearthing of vast terroirs in Beaujolais-Villages.
Profile
Beaujolais that shows this intensity is a wondrous wine. With a deep nose that offers juicy black cherries, bramble and ripe plum, this is quite concentrated with chunkier upfront tannins that taper into a silky ‘peacock feather’ shaped finish. This is all about exuberance, yet with an effortlessness feeling. Wow.
Reviews
James Suckling
“A great Beaujolais-Villages? Yes! This has an incredibly deep nose of ripest blackberries, sour cherries and damson plums. Very concentrated fruit and ripe tannins on the super-focused palate. So bright and expressive at the very long finish, where ripeness and minerality are intertwined in a breathtakingly beautiful way.”

Oh Beaujolais, how we love you! Known for growing the delicious Gamay grape, this French wine region is located just north of Lyon. While administratively considered part of the Burgundy wine region and the climate here is close to the Rhône - the wine is unique unto itself.
