Why do we love this wine?

When we have this producer at the tasting bench, you can be sure there's a few of us salivating over the wines. This cabernet is always an absolute standout, and we all nod in agreement that this has to be one of the best value cabernets we've ever sold. Ever. An extroverted red which refuses to back down, this wine is fragrant with dark forest fruits seducing the nose, while traces of mint and cedar oak add a twist of regional character. A torrent of ripe plum, dark berry and blackcurrant make their presence known on the palate -  clearly dominating but steering clear of overwhelming the tastebuds. The finish is superb with great length and a dry finale. An outstanding example of how to balance power with restraint, and succeed - this magnificent cab shows others how it’s done.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine demonstrates how premium Coonawarra terroir can deliver world-class quality without the premium price tag. The 96-point ratings from multiple critics confirm its outstanding quality, while the full-bodied structure and complex flavour profile rival wines costing significantly more. Jim Brand's winemaking expertise allows them to craft a cabernet that balances power with finesse, making luxury accessible.

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil and cool climate create the perfect conditions for elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with distinctive regional markers. The mint and cedar oak notes mentioned are classic Coonawarra characteristics, developed through the region's unique terroir. This cool-climate influence allows the wine to maintain freshness and structure while developing the rich dark fruit flavours that make Coonawarra cabernets so sought after globally.

The wine's rich plum and blackcurrant flavours, combined with its full-bodied structure, make it ideal for robust red meat dishes like grilled lamb or beef. The chocolate and cherry notes complement game meats beautifully, while the mint undertones pair wonderfully with herb-crusted roasts. The wine's excellent length and dry finish also make it suitable for aged hard cheeses and dark chocolate desserts.

Premium Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon like this typically peaks between 5-15 years from vintage, meaning this 2021 will continue developing until the mid-2030s. The wine's excellent structure and balance suggest it will age gracefully, with the current fruit-forward character evolving into more complex tertiary flavours. While delicious now, cellaring for 3-5 years will allow the tannins to integrate further and reveal additional complexity.

Jim Brand Wines has earned recognition as a Five Star Halliday Rated Winery, indicating consistent excellence across their portfolio. Their approach to Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates masterful understanding of varietal expression and regional character. The multiple 96-point ratings for this wine reflect their ability to craft wines that impress both critics and consumers, establishing them as a producer to watch in the Australian wine landscape.
