We are incredibly excited to get a very small allocation of this Californian Cabernet gem. Deep, rich and silky smooth, this is robust and commanding Cali cabernet, as it should be.

Why do we love this wine?

Deep, rich notes of ripe black cherries, mulberries, black pepper, mocha and spices all explode from the glass. The palate is pure silk, but supported by incredibly fine-grained tannins from 10 months of oak work. Plush feels like an understatement here, ripe, juicy black fruits and a long, velvety finish make for an incredible Californian cabernet that will knock your socks off.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 10 months of oak ageing creates incredibly fine-grained tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the wine's natural fruit expression. This extended oak treatment allows the wine to develop complex mocha and spice notes while maintaining the pure, silky texture that distinguishes premium Californian Cabernets from their more austere Old World counterparts.

The 2020 vintage in California benefited from ideal growing conditions that produced exceptionally ripe, concentrated fruit flavours. This translates to the wine's explosive black cherry and mulberry characteristics, with the vintage's natural intensity perfectly complementing the oak integration to create that signature velvety finish.

The wine's black pepper and spice notes make it exceptional with grilled red meats, particularly ribeye or lamb with herb crusts. The mocha undertones and full body also pair beautifully with rich, umami-driven dishes like mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses, where the wine's fine tannins can cut through richness while enhancing savoury flavours.

While the wine's plush, juicy character makes it incredibly approachable now, the fine-grained tannin structure suggests excellent cellaring potential. The 2020 vintage's concentration and the quality oak integration indicate this Cabernet will continue developing complexity over the next 5-8 years, with the fruit flavours evolving into more tertiary characteristics.

A 90-point rating places this wine in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that significantly exceeds expectations for its price point. The 'Mofo Fave' designation suggests this Cabernet offers remarkable value, delivering premium Californian wine characteristics typically found in much more expensive bottles, making it an excellent introduction to high-quality American Cabernet Sauvignon.
