Why do we love this wine?
If you needed to explain what McLaren Vale shiraz tastes like to someone who had never tried it before, you'd open up a bottle of this beauty. Completely classic in every way. Dark and inky in colour, the nose displays its fruit remarkably well and a complex palate of blood plums, dark chocolate, liquorice and blueberry build to a vanillan oak and peppery spice driven finish. In the words of Jane Faulkner of Halliday Wine Companion, "Full-bodied, solid tannins and a bit of a thumper". This is drinking at its best from now until 2030 (give or take) so it's very much in the perfect window to get stuck into now!

Halliday Wine Companion
New oak is low here, around 5% (French and American), but there’s likely some more recent fills, with some walnut/hazelnut husk and vanillin notes and structuring, woody grip. This is always the generous but not too overt Maxwell shiraz, offering dark fruit, some rum and raisin spice notes, hints of dark chocolate and anise. So too, here. There’s also a little ferrous minerality, adding savoury detail.
