O'Leary Walker Armagh Shiraz 2019

$255 / 6PK
When a vintage as celebrated as 2018 sets the bar sky-high, the follow-up has a lot to prove. This 2019 release doesn’t just meet expectations - it SMASHES them. Sourced from two exceptional Clare Valley sites - the cool, mineral-rich Polish Hill River and the warmer, more robust Armagh district - this wine captures the perfect balance of purity and power. It spent two years in French oak, allowing its structure and texture to knit together in perfect harmony.

Why do we love this wine?
In the glass, it’s an inky, impenetrable beauty - deep crimson edges framing a core of midnight black. The aromatics are intoxicating: blackberry and black cherry laced with liquorice, fennel, black olive, and an appropriate lick of cedar and spice. On the palate, it’s plush yet composed - layers of dark plum, mocha, and subtle pepper rolling over fine-grained tannins that bring both gravity and grace. This is Clare Valley craftsmanship at its peak: powerful without excess, refined without restraint. Built for long-term cellaring, though utterly compelling even now. For collectors, this is the kind of wine that disappears quietly into cellars and only re-emerges years later - more complex, more commanding, and even harder to find. For impatient folks like us, it ends up in the glass next to anything salty and fatty.
