Why do we love this wine?

At the foot of arguably the greatest commune in Burgundy, Vosne-Romanée, lies the vineyard of Bourgogne Rouge Les Combes. The small bunches of tiny grapes produced here are of superb quality and result in powerful and complex wines like this extraordinary expression from Pierre Naigeon. Established in 1890 and located in the prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin, Pierre Naigeon's single vineyard wines are as exceptional as they are rare. Never before have we been lucky enough to source this masterpiece Bourgogne Rouge, and, as you can imagine, allocation is extremely limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine comes from Les Combes vineyard, positioned at the foot of Vosne-Romanée, one of Burgundy's most prestigious communes. The proximity to such legendary terroir influences the vineyard's microclimate and soil composition, allowing the small bunches of tiny grapes to develop exceptional concentration and complexity. Pierre Naigeon's single-vineyard approach means this wine expresses the unique character of this specific site rather than being a blend from multiple locations.

The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was marked by challenging weather conditions including spring frosts and summer heat, which naturally reduced yields and concentrated flavours. This stress on the vines often produces wines with greater intensity and structure, particularly beneficial for Pinot Noir's expression of terroir. At six years of age, this wine has had sufficient time to integrate its tannins while retaining the fresh cherry and mineral characteristics that define quality Burgundy.

Established in 1890 and based in the prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin commune, Pierre Naigeon represents over 130 years of Burgundian winemaking tradition. Their focus on single-vineyard expressions and extremely limited allocations reflects the artisanal approach that defines Burgundy's greatest producers. The rarity of their wines, combined with their location in one of Burgundy's most respected villages, positions them among the region's elite vignerons who prioritise quality over quantity.

The wine's medium body and savoury, earthy profile make it ideal for classic French cuisine like coq au vin, duck confit, or mushroom-based dishes that echo its mineral and earthy notes. The cherry flavours and textured mouthfeel also complement game meats, aged cheeses, and herb-crusted lamb. Its Burgundian elegance means it won't overpower delicate preparations, while its complexity can stand up to richer, more substantial dishes.

Serve this Burgundy at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics and mineral nuances to fully express themselves - slightly cooler than typical reds to preserve its elegance. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to help the wine open up and integrate its earthy, cherry, and mineral components. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place at 12-15°C, as this 2017 vintage has excellent aging potential and will continue developing complexity over the next 5-8 years.
