If this is how graceful this cab looks at 10 years of age, we're certain this will continue to live forever. Bright and richly fruited, with a sophisticated dose of oak to compliment the concentration of this stunning aged cab.

Why do we love this wine?

Cabernet quite seriously doesn't get much better than this. The best of the best barrels are selected for this top-tier release, which speaks to the depth and complexity that meets you in every glass. Rich notes of roasted coffee and cocoa meet you on the nose, with a whopping lick of baking spices and clove in tandem. We were, quite frankly, gobsmacked to get our hands on this cab straight from the cellar of this iconic Coonawarra producer, and we're confident you'll feel just the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

This exceptional rating reflects the wine's museum-quality status and meticulous barrel selection process. Only the finest barrels from Reschke's cellar were chosen for the Armenta release, resulting in extraordinary depth and complexity that showcases Coonawarra's renowned terra rossa soils. The 2014 vintage has had nearly a decade to develop its sophisticated layers of roasted coffee, cocoa, and baking spices, demonstrating the exceptional ageing potential that separates premium Cabernet from everyday bottles.

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil strip creates ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with distinctive eucalyptus notes and exceptional structure. The region's cool climate allows for extended ripening periods, developing the complex blackberry and liquorice flavours evident in this bottle. This terroir expression, combined with Reschke's winemaking expertise, creates the full-bodied richness and spice complexity that makes Coonawarra Cabernet globally recognised among wine connoisseurs.

At nearly ten years old, this museum release is drinking beautifully now, with its tannins fully integrated and complex secondary flavours fully developed. However, premium Coonawarra Cabernet like this can continue evolving for another 5-10 years, developing even more nuanced earthy and leather notes. The choice depends on your preference - enjoy its current rich, spiced character immediately, or cellar it to experience how the cocoa and coffee notes will further meld with time.

The wine's rich cocoa and roasted coffee notes make it perfect for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with peppercorn sauce. The baking spice elements complement aged cheeses like vintage cheddar or blue cheese, while the liquorice undertones pair beautifully with game meats like venison. The full-bodied structure can stand up to robust flavours, making it ideal for slow-cooked dishes with rich, savoury sauces.

A museum release indicates this wine has been carefully stored in optimal cellar conditions by the winery itself, ensuring perfect provenance and storage history. These wines are typically released only when the winemaker believes they've reached their ideal drinking window, representing the pinnacle of what that vintage can achieve. Museum releases are rare and highly sought after, as they offer wine lovers the opportunity to experience a mature, perfectly cellared wine without the risk of poor storage affecting the bottle's development.
