The best of both worlds. All the big, bold, brash Barossa that you're used to, but with a point of difference: elegance. A smooth, slippery, silky, shiraz that absolutely still packs a punch.

Why do we love this wine?

From a steep hillside vineyard, about 5kms north of the Lyndoch township, this full-bodied shiraz displays intricate and complex layers of black pepper, spice, dark chocolate and ripe blackberries and plums. The smoky cedar notes of the oak and super-fine grained tannins bring a touch of class to your glass and set up a long, velvety finish. Although already very elegantly well-integrated, the bright acidity, presence of the oak and slightly chalky tannin structure set this wine up for a long life in the cellar of anyone who's got the patience.

Frequently Asked Questions

The steep hillside vineyard north of Lyndoch benefits from excellent drainage and sun exposure that's crucial for premium Shiraz development. Hillside sites in the Barossa typically experience greater diurnal temperature variation, allowing grapes to retain acidity while developing intense flavours. The elevation and slope also provide natural wind flow, reducing disease pressure and concentrating flavours in the berries.

While beautifully integrated now, this wine's bright acidity and structured tannins suggest excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years. The oak integration and chalky tannin structure will continue to soften and develop complexity over time. For those who prefer more mature characteristics, consider cellaring until 2030-2032 when the wine will show greater tertiary development and silkier texture.

The wine's black pepper spice and dark chocolate notes make it perfect for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with peppercorn sauce. The smoky cedar oak complements barbecued dishes beautifully, while the wine's structure can handle rich, slow-cooked braises and aged hard cheeses. The plum and blackberry fruit also pairs wonderfully with game meats like venison or duck.

A 96-point rating from Wine Orbit places this Shiraz in exceptional territory, indicating outstanding quality and complexity. This score suggests the wine demonstrates perfect varietal expression, excellent balance, and significant ageing potential. Combined with Schild Estate's Five Star Halliday winery rating, it confirms this producer consistently delivers premium Barossa Valley wines that punch well above their weight class.

The 2022 vintage in Barossa was marked as a 'Killer Vintage', indicating exceptional growing conditions that produced wines of outstanding quality and concentration. This vintage typically shows excellent fruit purity and natural acidity retention, explaining why this wine displays such vibrant blackberry and plum flavours alongside its complex spice elements. The vintage's quality also supports the wine's impressive cellaring potential and current critical acclaim.
