Why do we love this wine?

Wild Earth are a solid mofo favourite and absolute darlings of the wine press too. From a ripping Bannockburn single site in Central Otago, this wine has everything: elegance, grace, poise, power. There is a seductive bouquet of black fruits on the nose, with a touch of the tertiary mushroom complexity. Expect dark cherry, plum and thyme on the plate, this has it all in check, composed and confident. Whether you’re looking to impress at a dinner party next week or hide a few bottles away - this is the pinot for the job.

WOW – what a great bouquet – very earthy with a smoky soil quality, there’s a rich core of fruit with dried raspberry and plum, some black currant then aromas of wood spices and a fine dried herb savoury quality. Dry and delicious on the palate with flavours that mirror the bouquet. Ripe fine tannins layer in mouthfeel and acidity adds freshness and purity. Delicious, fresh, dry, varietal and lengthy, a wine for drinking from 2023 through 2030+

Frequently Asked Questions

Central Otago's unique continental climate creates perfect conditions for Pinot Noir, with hot days and cool nights that preserve the grape's delicate aromatics while developing complex flavours. The region's schist soils and high altitude vineyards contribute to the wine's distinctive mineral backbone and elegant structure. This Bannockburn single site exemplifies how Central Otago's terroir produces Pinot Noir with both power and finesse, balancing the variety's inherent elegance with remarkable depth.

With its impressive 97-point rating and structured profile, this Wild Earth Pinot Noir has excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. As it ages, the current black fruit intensity will evolve into more complex tertiary notes like forest floor, leather, and earthy mushroom characters. The wine's tannin structure will soften and integrate, while maintaining its elegant backbone, making it even more harmonious and sophisticated over time.

The wine's medium body and complex flavour profile make it incredibly versatile with food, particularly excelling with duck, lamb, or salmon where its plum and dark cherry notes complement rich proteins. The subtle spice and thyme characteristics pair beautifully with herb-crusted dishes or mushroom-based cuisine. Its balanced acidity and elegant tannins also make it an excellent match for aged cheeses or charcuterie, enhancing both the wine's fruit character and the food's savoury elements.

Jen Parr's international experience across four continents brings a unique global perspective to New Zealand winemaking, evident in this wine's sophisticated balance of Old World elegance and New World fruit expression. Her recognition as New Zealand Winemaker of the Year in 2019 reflects her ability to craft wines that showcase terroir while maintaining accessibility. This Pinot Noir demonstrates her skill in creating wines with both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential, combining technical precision with artistic vision.

The wine's remarkable collection of awards, including being named Pinot Noir of the Year 2022, reflects its exceptional balance of power and elegance that critics seek in premium Pinot Noir. The combination of single-site fruit expression, expert winemaking, and Central Otago's distinctive terroir creates a wine that showcases both varietal character and regional identity. Its ability to display immediate complexity while promising further development explains why it has earned consistent high scores across multiple respected wine publications and competitions.
