Why do we love this wine?

Founded in 1920, Champagne Carbon is a 5th generation family operation combining age-old tradition with modern ingenuity. ‘Carbon’ isn’t just a fancy name - each bottle is wrapped in a layer of carbon fibre, a process that required four years research and development before the first prototype was released. Every single bottle takes 21 precise steps across an entire week to complete.

This is 50% chardonnay, 25% pinot noir and 25% pinot meunier that is aged in oak and finished with a barely perceptible 9 g/L dosage. It’s salmon in colour, aromatic and bright. Look for strawberry, cherry and violet on the nose with hints of orange peel, citrus tang and more strawberry coming through on the palate. Certainly a ‘show-off’ wine of the finest order, but not just because of the impressive packaging...the real magic is in the wine inside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each bottle is wrapped in a layer of carbon fibre, a revolutionary process that took four years of research and development to perfect. The production is incredibly labour-intensive, requiring 21 precise steps over an entire week to complete each bottle. This innovative approach combines cutting-edge materials technology with traditional champagne-making, creating a truly distinctive presentation that reflects the modern ingenuity of this 5th generation family operation.

This rosé champagne is crafted from 50% chardonnay, 25% pinot noir, and 25% pinot meunier - a classic champagne blend with chardonnay taking the lead. The chardonnay provides the crisp citrus backbone and minerality, while pinot noir contributes the salmon colour and red fruit characteristics like strawberry and cherry. Pinot meunier adds roundness and approachability, creating a harmonious balance that's both elegant and expressive.

The oak ageing process adds complexity and depth beyond typical champagne production methods. This treatment contributes subtle toast notes that complement the bright fruit flavours, creating layers of flavour that develop on the palate. The oak influence is carefully balanced to enhance rather than overpower the delicate fruit characteristics, resulting in a more sophisticated and food-friendly champagne with greater ageing potential.

The 9 g/L dosage places this champagne in the 'extra brut' category, making it very dry with barely perceptible sweetness. This minimal dosage allows the pure fruit flavours and terroir characteristics to shine through without any cloying sweetness. The restrained sugar level enhances the wine's crisp, refreshing character and makes it an excellent aperitif or food pairing wine, particularly with seafood or light appetisers.

Founded in 1920, Champagne Carbon represents five generations of family winemaking expertise, combining traditional champagne methods with groundbreaking innovation. Their Icon Producer status reflects not only their historical significance but also their pioneering spirit in developing the carbon fibre wrapping technology. The 4.3-star Vivino rating demonstrates consistent quality and consumer appreciation, while their commitment to both heritage and innovation sets them apart in the competitive champagne market.
