Why do we love this wine?

This is green apples and pears through and through - there is so much freshness and energy in the glass. Classic Polish Hill minerality threads a nervy vein throughout. White floral aromatics offer nuance and complexity. This is a seriously smart wine - in the conversation for the best out of the region. Completely elite.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polish Hill is one of Clare Valley's most prized vineyard sites, sitting at high altitude with ancient slate soils that impart distinctive minerality. The cool climate and poor soils stress the vines, producing intensely concentrated fruit with razor-sharp acidity. This terroir creates Rieslings with exceptional longevity and that characteristic 'nervy' mineral backbone that sets Polish Hill apart from warmer Clare Valley sites.

Serve well-chilled at 8-10°C in a tulip-shaped white wine glass to concentrate the delicate floral aromatics. The wine's light body and high acidity make it perfect as an aperitif, but it also pairs beautifully with Asian cuisine, seafood, or goat's cheese. Decanting isn't necessary - this style of Riesling is best enjoyed fresh to preserve its vibrant fruit character.

While this 2022 vintage is absolutely stunning now with its fresh green apple and pear flavours, premium Clare Valley Riesling like this can age magnificently for 10-15 years. Young Riesling shows primary fruit and floral notes, but with time develops complex honey, toast and petrol characters while maintaining that signature acidity. You can enjoy it immediately or cellar it for a completely different but equally rewarding experience.

The wine's crisp acidity and mineral backbone make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that have some richness or spice. Try it with Thai green curry, seared scallops, or pork belly - the acidity cuts through fat while the fruit complements both sweet and savoury elements. The floral aromatics also work beautifully with herb-crusted fish or Vietnamese fresh spring rolls.

Jeffrey Grosset pioneered the use of screwcaps for premium Australian Riesling in the 1990s, revolutionising the category by eliminating cork taint and ensuring consistent ageing. His meticulous vineyard management and minimal intervention winemaking allow the pure expression of Clare Valley terroir to shine through. The Five Red Star Halliday rating reflects decades of consistent excellence, with Grosset Rieslings regularly ranking among Australia's finest examples of the variety.
