This is a stunner, the real deal right here. Michael Hutton has been around wine in Margaret River his entire life and makes some of the best small batch chardonnay in the entire country. That’s not an exaggeration. This is his top wine, the Triptych Reserve. It comes from a single vineyard in Wilyabrup, the ‘golden mile’ so to speak of Margaret River. Handpicked Gin Gin and Clone 5 grapes were picked in the cool of night before undergoing a gentle whole-bunch press and wild barrel ferment in 28% new French oak. After eight months in barrel, the wine was bottled and less than 100 cases were produced.

My own notes from the tasting table: excellent, minerally, beautifully integrated oak, vivid acid, nutty but linear, lemon, subtle honey, mascarpone, sherbert, powerful but without heft.
