Meet your new favourite table white. Zippy yet textured, this one's all about balance. A balance of acid and texture, a balance of fruit and structure, a balance of elegance and power. If you're a drinker of riesling, pinot grigio or savagnin, this is more than worth a try.

Why do we love this wine?

This wine feels as though it was made out of instinct, that's a good thing by the way, a really good thing. Now it goes without saying that a lot of hard work and plenty of know-how goes into creating gorgeous white wines like this, but we're talking about how this one feels, and, in a word, it feels effortless. A clean, versatile, and ultimately generous wine with racy acid and a structured, textural finish. We're saving a bottle to have with prawn pasta but something tells us this little number could handle anything from a curry to a full-blown Mexican feast. Nachos mightn't have been what the Italian winemakers had in mind, but it's your party, you can eat nachos if you want to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pecorino is an ancient Italian grape variety that was nearly extinct until passionate winemakers in Abruzzo revived it in recent decades. Unlike more common whites, Pecorino naturally develops beautiful texture and structure while maintaining bright acidity, making it perfect for food pairing. The grape's name translates to 'little sheep', referencing how sheep would seek out these particular vines to graze on the sweet fruit.

The combination of racy acidity and textural structure in this Pecorino creates the perfect foil for heat and spice. The bright citrus notes (lemon and orange blossom) help cool the palate, while the wine's generous character and almond undertones complement rich, complex flavours without being overwhelmed. Many Italian whites share this versatility, as they're traditionally made to pair with the bold, varied cuisine of their regions.

Luca Maroni is one of Italy's most respected wine critics, known for his rigorous scoring system that emphasises pleasure and drinkability over complexity alone. A 97-point score indicates exceptional quality and suggests this Pecorino represents outstanding value for money. Maroni particularly values wines that deliver immediate enjoyment while maintaining technical excellence, which aligns perfectly with this wine's effortless, instinctive character.

Abruzzo sits between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains, creating a unique microclimate that's ideal for Pecorino. The maritime influence provides cooling breezes that preserve the grape's natural acidity, while the mountainous terrain offers excellent drainage and temperature variation. This combination allows Pecorino to develop its characteristic mineral backbone and aromatic intensity, explaining why this wine feels so fresh and structured despite its generous nature.

Organic viticulture in Abruzzo reflects a return to traditional farming methods that respect the region's pristine environment. For Pecorino specifically, organic practices help preserve the grape's delicate aromatics and natural acidity by avoiding synthetic interventions that might mask terroir expression. The organic certification also suggests the producer's commitment to sustainability, which often correlates with more thoughtful winemaking that allows the grape's true character to shine through.
