Modern chardy is a thing of beauty, flinty and delicate up front but then it's those rich citrus and stone fruit notes that we love form the variety. Sprinkle some toasty spice from the oak and we're in heaven.

Why do we love this wine?

We could ramble on for days and days about why we love chardonnay, especially the wines coming out of Margaret River but here it's the finer details that get us (and the critics) excited and ticking all of the boxes. Coming in at 12.5% and with those cool breezes of the region you just know this is going to be a lighter, more refreshing style of chardy with loads of acidity that will get us coming back for more and more. Delving deeper, the use of new and old oak with stirring of the wine during fermentation gets us salivating with layers of complexity popping out of the glass and on the palate. Finally, barrel selections has ensured only the most balanced, complex and complete wine is bottled.

Frequently Asked Questions

At just 12.5% alcohol, this Chardonnay showcases the cooler climate influence of Margaret River's ocean breezes, creating a more elegant and refreshing style than the richer, higher-alcohol Chardonnays often found in warmer Australian regions. The combination of new and old oak with lees stirring during fermentation adds complexity while maintaining the wine's natural acidity and finesse. This approach reflects Margaret River's reputation for producing some of Australia's most balanced and food-friendly Chardonnays.

These flavour notes create a beautiful progression from crisp to creamy on the palate. The green apple provides the wine's backbone of fresh acidity, while the tropical guava hints add exotic complexity that's characteristic of quality Margaret River Chardonnay. The cashew notes come from the careful oak treatment and lees contact, contributing a subtle nuttiness and creamy texture that bridges the fruit flavours. This combination demonstrates the winemaker's skill in balancing fruit purity with sophisticated oak integration.

The consistent 95-point scores from both Halliday Wine Companion and Wine Orbit, plus strong Vivino ratings, reflect the wine's exceptional balance and complexity. Critics particularly value wines that express their terroir clearly while showing technical excellence, which this Chardonnay achieves through its restrained alcohol, precise oak handling, and vibrant acidity. The barrel selection process mentioned ensures only the most harmonious components make it into the final blend, creating a wine that meets the exacting standards of professional wine critics.

Single-block designations like 'Williams' Block' indicate the grapes come from a specific vineyard parcel with unique characteristics, rather than being blended from multiple sites. This allows the winemaker to capture the distinct personality of that particular piece of land, including its soil composition, microclimate, and vine age. Block-designated wines often represent the premium tier of a producer's range, as they showcase the best expression of a specific terroir rather than aiming for consistency across different vineyard sites.

Serve this wine well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight its refreshing acidity and allow the complex oak and fruit integration to shine through gradually as it warms in the glass. The full-bodied nature and cashew notes make it an excellent match for creamy seafood dishes, roasted chicken, or aged hard cheeses. Given its 95-point ratings and careful barrel selection, this wine will benefit from proper glassware - use a larger bowl Chardonnay glass to concentrate the aromatics and allow the wine to breathe properly.
