There's nothing quite like a bestselling, single-vineyard, Yarra Valley chardonnay to get you through the cooler months. There's a catch, though (there's always a catch) - stocks are seriously limited.

Why do we love this wine?

A brilliant wine. Chardonnay that feels premium in every way. The weight. The length. The way it changes and evolves as it breathes a little. The sheer amount of complexity in every glass. We're decidedly in cooler fruits here; green apples, pears, green grapes, some grapefruit, plentiful citrus. That fruit is stretched across some tightly wound, nervy acidity that snakes it's way up the palate to eventually define the long, fantastic finish. This is a wine that will have you coming back for more and, on that front, I'm sorry to say we'll have to disappoint you, Mofo: this will sell out quick.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Warramunda Estate Chardonnay showcases a distinctly cool-climate profile that contrasts beautifully with Australia's traditionally warmer, richer Chardonnay styles. The focus on green apple, pear and citrus flavours reflects the Yarra Valley's cooler conditions, which allow for slower ripening and greater retention of natural acidity. This creates a more European-style expression with mineral tension rather than the tropical fruit and oak-heavy characteristics often associated with warmer Australian regions.

The 2024 vintage represents exceptional recent winemaking, earning an impressive 95 points from Wine Orbit - a score that places it among Australia's elite Chardonnays. Being such a current release means you're experiencing the wine at its youthful peak, with all the vibrant acidity and fresh fruit character intact. The complexity mentioned in tasting notes suggests this vintage captured ideal growing conditions that allowed for both concentration and elegance.

Serve this Chardonnay slightly chilled at 10-12°C to preserve its crisp acidity while allowing the full-bodied texture to shine through. The wine's complexity means it will evolve beautifully in the glass as it warms slightly and breathes. Consider decanting or at least opening 15-20 minutes before serving to unlock the layers of flavour that develop with aeration, particularly the mineral finish that defines this style.

The wine's combination of creamy texture, citrus acidity and mineral finish makes it exceptional with seafood - think pan-seared scallops, lobster thermidor, or fresh oysters. The full body can handle richer preparations like roasted chicken with herbs or creamy mushroom risotto. The bright acidity cuts through fatty fish like salmon or tuna, while the complexity pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses that echo the wine's mineral characteristics.

Single vineyard designation means all grapes come from one specific site, allowing the winemaker to capture the unique terroir characteristics of that particular location within the Yarra Valley. This approach typically results in greater complexity and distinctiveness compared to blended regional wines, as the fruit expresses the specific soil, microclimate and elevation of that vineyard block. It's a mark of premium winemaking that focuses on showcasing place rather than simply variety, explaining the wine's exceptional depth and character.
